1Als Jesus den Tempel verließ, sagte einer von seinen Jüngern zu ihm: Meister, sieh, was für Steine und was für Bauten!2Jesus sagte zu ihm: Siehst du diese großen Bauten? Kein Stein wird hier auf dem andern bleiben, der nicht niedergerissen wird.
Der Anfang der endzeitlichen Not
3Und als er auf dem Ölberg saß, dem Tempel gegenüber, fragten ihn Petrus, Jakobus, Johannes und Andreas, die mit ihm allein waren:4Sag uns, wann wird das geschehen und was ist das Zeichen, dass dies alles sich vollenden soll?5Jesus sagte zu ihnen: Gebt Acht, dass euch niemand irreführt!6Viele werden unter meinem Namen auftreten und sagen: Ich bin es! Und sie werden viele irreführen.7Wenn ihr von Kriegen hört und von Kriegsgerüchten, lasst euch nicht erschrecken! Das muss geschehen. Es ist aber noch nicht das Ende.8Denn Volk wird sich gegen Volk und Reich gegen Reich erheben. Und an vielen Orten wird es Erdbeben und Hungersnöte geben. Doch das ist erst der Anfang der Wehen.9Ihr aber, gebt Acht auf euch selbst: Man wird euch um meinetwillen an die Gerichte ausliefern, in den Synagogen misshandeln und vor Statthalter und Könige stellen - ihnen zum Zeugnis.10Allen Völkern muss zuerst das Evangelium verkündet werden.11Und wenn man euch abführt und ausliefert, macht euch nicht im Voraus Sorgen, was ihr reden sollt; sondern was euch in jener Stunde eingegeben wird, das sagt! Denn nicht ihr werdet dann reden, sondern der Heilige Geist.12Brüder werden einander dem Tod ausliefern und Väter ihre Kinder und die Kinder werden sich gegen ihre Eltern auflehnen und sie in den Tod schicken.13Und ihr werdet um meines Namens willen von allen gehasst werden; wer aber bis zum Ende standhaft bleibt, der wird gerettet werden.
Vom Höhepunkt der Not
14Wenn ihr aber den Gräuel der Verwüstung an dem Ort seht, wo er nicht stehen darf - der Leser begreife -, dann sollen die Bewohner von Judäa in die Berge fliehen;15wer gerade auf dem Dach ist, soll nicht hinabsteigen und hineingehen, um etwas aus seinem Haus zu holen;16und wer auf dem Feld ist, soll nicht zurückkehren, um seinen Mantel zu holen.17Weh aber den Frauen, die in jenen Tagen schwanger sind oder ein Kind stillen!18Betet darum, dass es nicht im Winter geschieht!19Denn jene Tage werden eine Drangsal sein, wie es sie nie gegeben hat, von Anfang der Schöpfung, die Gott geschaffen hat, bis heute, und wie es auch keine mehr geben wird.20Und wenn der Herr die Tage nicht verkürzt hätte, dann würde kein Mensch gerettet; aber um seiner Auserwählten willen hat er die Tage verkürzt.21Wenn dann jemand zu euch sagt: Seht, hier ist der Christus! oder: Seht, dort ist er!, so glaubt es nicht!22Denn es wird mancher falsche Christus und mancher falsche Prophet auftreten und sie werden Zeichen und Wunder wirken, um, wenn möglich, die Auserwählten irrezuführen.23Ihr aber, gebt Acht! Ich habe euch alles vorausgesagt.
Das Kommen des Menschensohnes
24Aber in jenen Tagen, nach jener Drangsal, wird die Sonne verfinstert werden und der Mond wird nicht mehr scheinen;25die Sterne werden vom Himmel fallen und die Kräfte des Himmels werden erschüttert werden.26Dann wird man den Menschensohn in Wolken kommen sehen, mit großer Kraft und Herrlichkeit.27Und er wird die Engel aussenden und die von ihm Auserwählten aus allen vier Windrichtungen zusammenführen, vom Ende der Erde bis zum Ende des Himmels.
Der nahe, aber unbekannte Zeitpunkt
28Lernt etwas aus dem Vergleich mit dem Feigenbaum! Sobald seine Zweige saftig werden und Blätter treiben, erkennt ihr, dass der Sommer nahe ist.29So erkennt auch ihr, wenn ihr das geschehen seht, dass er nahe vor der Tür ist.30Amen, ich sage euch: Diese Generation wird nicht vergehen, bis das alles geschieht.31Himmel und Erde werden vergehen, aber meine Worte werden nicht vergehen.32Doch jenen Tag und jene Stunde kennt niemand, auch nicht die Engel im Himmel, nicht einmal der Sohn, sondern nur der Vater.
Aufforderung zur Wachsamkeit
33Gebt Acht und bleibt wach! Denn ihr wisst nicht, wann die Zeit da ist.34Es ist wie mit einem Mann, der sein Haus verließ, um auf Reisen zu gehen: Er übertrug die Vollmacht seinen Knechten, jedem eine bestimmte Aufgabe; dem Türhüter befahl er, wachsam zu sein.35Seid also wachsam! Denn ihr wisst nicht, wann der Hausherr kommt, ob am Abend oder um Mitternacht, ob beim Hahnenschrei oder erst am Morgen.36Er soll euch, wenn er plötzlich kommt, nicht schlafend antreffen.37Was ich aber euch sage, das sage ich allen: Seid wachsam!

When the temple will be destroyed and the signs of the end
1Jesus was leaving the temple. One of his disciples said to him, ‘Look, Teacher! What huge stones! What wonderful buildings!’2‘Do you see these huge buildings?’ Jesus asked. ‘Not one stone here will be left on top of another. Every stone will be thrown down.’3Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, opposite the temple. Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him a question in private.4‘Tell us’, they said. ‘When will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to come true?’5Jesus said to them, ‘Keep watch! Be careful that no one fools you.6Many will come in my name. They will claim, “I am he.” They will fool many people.7You will hear about wars. You will also hear people talking about future wars. Don’t be alarmed. These things must happen. But the end still isn’t here.8Nation will fight against nation. Kingdom will fight against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many places. People will go hungry. All these things are the beginning of birth-pains.9‘Watch out! You will be handed over to the local courts. You will be whipped in the synagogues. You will stand in front of governors and kings because of me. In that way you will be witnesses to them.10The good news has to be preached to all nations before the end comes.11You will be arrested and brought to trial. But don’t worry in advance about what you will say. Just say what God brings to your mind at the time. It is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.12‘Brothers will hand over brothers to be killed. Fathers will hand over their children. Children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death.13Everyone will hate you because of me. But the one who remains strong in the faith will be saved.14‘You will see “the hated thing that destroys.” It will stand where it does not belong. The reader should understand this. Then those who are in Judea should escape to the mountains.15No one on the roof should go down into the house to take anything out.16No one in the field should go back to get their coat.17How awful it will be in those days for pregnant women! How awful for nursing mothers!18Pray that this will not happen in winter.19Those days will be worse than any others from the time God created the world until now. And there will never be any like them again.20‘If the Lord had not cut the time short, no one would live. But because of God’s chosen people, he has shortened it.21At that time someone may say to you, “Look! Here is the Messiah!” Or, “Look! There he is!” Do not believe it.22False messiahs and false prophets will appear. They will do signs and miracles. They will try to fool God’s chosen people if possible.23Keep watch! I have told you everything in advance.24‘So in those days there will be terrible suffering. After that, Scripture says, ‘ “The sun will be darkened. The moon will not shine.25The stars will fall from the sky. The heavenly bodies will be shaken.”26‘At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds. He will come with great power and glory.27He will send his angels. He will gather his chosen people from all four directions. He will bring them from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.28‘Learn a lesson from the fig tree. As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.29In the same way, when you see these things happening, you know that the end is near. It is right at the door.30What I’m about to tell you is true. The people living now will certainly not pass away until all those things have happened.31Heaven and earth will pass away. But my words will never pass away.
The day and hour are not known
32‘But no one knows about that day or hour. Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows.33Keep watch! Stay awake! You do not know when that time will come.34It’s like a man going away. He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge. Each one is given a task to do. He tells the one at the door to keep watch.35‘So keep watch! You do not know when the owner of the house will come back. It may be in the evening or at midnight. It may be when the cockerel crows or at dawn.36He may come suddenly. So do not let him find you sleeping.37What I say to you, I say to everyone. “Watch!” ’
