1Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest?2All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.3“He who slaughters an ox is like one who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, like one who breaks a dog’s neck; he who presents a grain offering, like one who offers pig’s blood; he who makes a memorial offering of frankincense, like one who blesses an idol. These have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations;4I also will choose harsh treatment for them and bring their fears upon them, because when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, they did not listen; but they did what was evil in my eyes and chose that in which I did not delight.”5Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word: “Your brothers who hate you and cast you out for my name’s sake have said, ‘Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy’; but it is they who shall be put to shame.6“The sound of an uproar from the city! A sound from the temple! The sound of the Lord, rendering recompense to his enemies!
Rejoice with Jerusalem
7“Before she was in labor she gave birth; before her pain came upon her she delivered a son.8Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment? For as soon as Zion was in labor she brought forth her children.9Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause to bring forth?” says the Lord; “shall I, who cause to bring forth, shut the womb?” says your God.10“Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her;11that you may nurse and be satisfied from her consoling breast; that you may drink deeply with delight from her glorious abundance.”*12For thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream; and you shall nurse, you shall be carried upon her hip, and bounced upon her knees.13As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.14You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice; your bones shall flourish like the grass; and the hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants, and he shall show his indignation against his enemies.
Final Judgment and Glory of the Lord
15“For behold, the Lord will come in fire, and his chariots like the whirlwind, to render his anger in fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.16For by fire will the Lord enter into judgment, and by his sword, with all flesh; and those slain by the Lord shall be many.17“Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one in the midst, eating pig’s flesh and the abomination and mice, shall come to an end together, declares the Lord.18“For I know* their works and their thoughts, and the time is coming* to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and shall see my glory,19and I will set a sign among them. And from them I will send survivors to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands far away, that have not heard my fame or seen my glory. And they shall declare my glory among the nations.20And they shall bring all your brothers from all the nations as an offering to the Lord, on horses and in chariots and in litters and on mules and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the Israelites bring their grain offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord.21And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord.22“For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain.23From new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the Lord.24“And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

Gloire de la Jérusalem future
1Voici ce que dit l'Eternel: Le ciel est mon trône, et la terre mon marchepied. Quelle maison pourrez-vous me construire et quel endroit pourra être mon lieu de repos?2Tout cela, c'est ma main qui l'a fait*, et tout a alors reçu l'existence, déclare l'Eternel. Voici sur qui je porterai les regards: sur celui qui est humble et a l'esprit abattu, sur celui qui fait preuve de respect vis-à-vis de ma parole.3Celui qui égorge un bœuf abat un homme, celui qui sacrifie un agneau brise la nuque d'un chien, celui qui présente une offrande verse du sang de porc, celui qui fait brûler de l'encens adore des idoles: tous ceux-là ont choisi de suivre leurs propres voies et trouvent du plaisir dans leurs monstruosités.4Moi aussi, je choisirai de les abandonner à leurs caprices et je ferai venir sur eux ce qui cause leur frayeur, parce que j'ai appelé et qu'ils n'ont pas répondu, parce que j'ai parlé et qu'ils n'ont pas écouté. Au contraire, ils ont fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux, ils ont choisi ce qui ne me plaît pas.5Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, vous qui faites preuve de respect envers sa parole. Voici ce que disent vos frères, ceux qui vous détestent et vous repoussent à cause de mon nom: «Que l'Eternel montre sa gloire et que nous voyions votre joie!» Cependant, c'est eux qui seront couverts de honte.6Un tapage provient de la ville, un bruit sort du temple: c'est celui que fait l'Eternel en rendant à ses ennemis ce qu'ils méritent.7Avant de se tordre de douleur, elle a accouché; avant de connaître la souffrance, elle a donné naissance à un fils!8Qui a déjà entendu pareille nouvelle? Qui a déjà vu quelque chose de semblable? Un pays peut-il naître en un seul jour? Une nation peut-elle naître d'un seul coup? Pourtant, à peine en train d'accoucher, Sion a mis ses fils au monde!9Est-ce moi qui ouvrirais le ventre maternel pour ne pas laisser un enfant naître? dit l'Eternel. Moi qui fais naître, empêcherais-je d'accoucher? dit ton Dieu.10Réjouissez-vous avec Jérusalem, faites d'elle le sujet de votre allégresse, vous tous qui l'aimez! Exprimez votre joie avec elle, vous tous qui meniez deuil sur elle!11Ainsi vous vous nourrirez à satiété à sa poitrine consolatrice, ainsi vous savourerez avec bonheur la plénitude de sa gloire.12En effet, voici ce que dit l'Eternel: Je dirigerai la paix vers elle comme un fleuve, et la gloire des nations comme un torrent qui déborde, et vous serez allaités, portés sur les bras et caressés sur les genoux.13Tout comme un homme est consolé par sa mère, je vous consolerai moi-même; vous recevrez la consolation dans Jérusalem.14Lorsque vous verrez cela, votre cœur sera dans la joie et vos os retrouveront de la vigueur comme le fait l'herbe. L'Eternel manifestera sa puissance à ses serviteurs, et il fera sentir sa colère à ses ennemis.15Oui, voici l'Eternel! Il arrive dans un feu et ses chars sont comme un tourbillon; il manifeste sa colère dans un brasier et ses menaces par des flammes.16C'est par le feu, par son épée, que l'Eternel juge toute créature, et ses victimes seront nombreuses.17Ceux qui se consacrent et se purifient pour aller dans les jardins, en disciples de l'idole qui est parmi eux, qui mangent de la viande de porc, des choses monstrueuses et des souris, disparaîtront tous ensemble, déclare l'Eternel.18Moi, je connais leurs actes et leurs pensées. Je viens rassembler toutes les nations de toutes les langues; elles viendront et verront ma gloire.19Je mettrai un signe au milieu d'elles et j'enverrai plusieurs de leurs rescapés vers les autres nations – Tarsis, Pul et Lud, les peuples qui tirent à l'arc, Tubal, la Grèce et les îles lointaines, les hommes qui n'ont jamais entendu parler de moi ni vu ma gloire – et ils révéleront ma gloire parmi les nations.20Ils amèneront tous vos frères, issus de toutes les nations, en offrande à l'Eternel. Ils les amèneront sur des chevaux, des chars, des litières, des mulets ou des dromadaires à ma montagne sainte, à Jérusalem, dit l'Eternel, tout comme les Israélites amènent leur offrande à la maison de l'Eternel sur des plats purifiés.21Parmi eux aussi, je prendrai des prêtres et des Lévites, dit l'Eternel.22En effet, le nouveau ciel et la nouvelle terre que je vais créer subsisteront devant moi, déclare l'Eternel. De la même manière, votre descendance et votre nom subsisteront.23A chaque début de mois et à chaque sabbat, tout être vivant viendra se prosterner devant moi, dit l'Eternel,24et quand on sortira, on verra les cadavres des hommes qui se sont rebellés contre moi. En effet, leur ver ne mourra pas et leur feu ne s'éteindra pas*, et ils seront pour chacun un objet d'horreur.
