1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.2And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.3And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”4But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”5Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple6and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”7Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.9And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.”10Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”11Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
Jesus Begins His Ministry
12Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee.13And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali,14so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:15“The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—16the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”17From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”*
Jesus Calls the First Disciples
18While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.19And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”*20Immediately they left their nets and followed him.21And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.22Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Jesus Ministers to Great Crowds
23And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.24So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them.25And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

1آنگاه روح خدا عيسی را به بيابان برد تا در آنجا شيطان او را وسوسه و آزمايش كند.2عيسی در آن زمان، برای مدت چهل شبانه روز روزه گرفت. پس در آخر بسيار گرسنه شد.3در اين حال شيطان به سراغ او آمد و او را وسوسه كرد و گفت: «اگر اين سنگها را تبديل به نان كنی، ثابت خواهی كرد كه فرزند خدا هستی.»4اما عيسی به او فرمود: «نه، من چنين نخواهم كرد، زيرا كتاب آسمانی میفرمايد نان نمیتواند روح انسان را سير كند؛ بلكه فقط كلام خداست كه میتواند نياز درونی او را برآورده سازد.»5سپس شيطان او را به شهر اورشليم برد و بر روی بام خانهٔ خدا قرار داد،6و به او گفت: «خود را از اينجا بينداز و ثابت كن كه فرزند خدا هستی؛ چون كتاب آسمانی میفرمايد: خدا فرشتگان خود را خواهد فرستاد تا تو را از خطر حفظ كنند… آنها نخواهند گذاشت كه حتی پايت به سنگ بخورد.»7عيسی جواب داد: «بلی، ولی همان كتاب نيز میفرمايد كه خداوند را بیجهت آزمايش مكن.»8سپس شيطان او را به قلهٔ كوه بسيار بلندی برد و تمام ممالک جهان، و شكوه و جلال آنها را به او نشان داد،9و گفت: «اگر زانو بزنی و مرا سجده كنی، همهٔ اينها را به تو میبخشم.»10عيسی به او گفت: «دور شو ای شيطان! كتابمقدس میفرمايد: فقط خداوند را بپرست و تنها از او اطاعت كن.»11آنگاه شيطان دور شد و فرشتگان آمدند و عيسی را خدمت كردند.
آغاز خدمات عيسی
12وقتی عيسی از دستگيری يحيی باخبر شد، از ايالت يهوديه، به ناصره در ايالت جليل بازگشت. پس از مدتی، از آنجا به بندر كفرناحوم رفت كه در كرانهٔ درياچهٔ جليل و نزديک زبولون و نفتالی واقع است.14اشعيای نبی اين را پيشگويی كرده و گفته بود:15«سرزمين زبولون و نفتالی كنار درياچه، و ناحيهٔ آن طرف رود اردن، و جليل عليا، سرزمين بيگانگان؛16در آنجا كه مردم در تاريكی نشسته بودند، نور عظيمی ديده شد. بر آنانی كه در ديار مردگان ساكن بودند، نوری تابيد.»17عيسی از آن روز به بعد، به اعلام پيغام خدا پرداخت و میگفت: «از گناهان خود توبه نماييد و نزد خدا بازگشت كنيد، زيرا ملكوت آسمان نزديک شده است.»
نخستين شاگردان عيسی
18روزی عيسی در كنار درياچهٔ جليل قدم میزد كه«شمعون پطرس» و برادرش«اندرياس» را ديد كه سوار بر قايق بودند و تور ماهيگيری را به دريا انداخته بودند، زيرا شغل هر دو ماهيگيری بود.19عيسی ايشان را خوانده، گفت: «به دنبال من بياييد و من به شما نشان میدهم كه چگونه مردم را برای خدا صيد كنيد.»20ايشان بیدرنگ تورها را به كناری انداخته، به دنبال او رفتند.21عيسی از آنجا قدری جلوتر رفت و دو برادر ديگر يعنی يعقوب و يوحنا را ديد كه با پدرشان«زبدی» در قايق نشسته بودند و تورهای خود را تعمير میكردند. عيسی ايشان را نيز دعوت كرد تا به دنبالش بروند.22ايشان بلافاصله قايق و پدر خود را رها كرده، به دنبال عيسی رفتند.
خدمات عيسی در جليل
23عيسی در سراسر جليل میگشت و در عبادتگاه يهوديان تعليم میداد، و به هر جا میرسيد مژده ملكوت خدا را اعلام میكرد و هر نوع مرض و بيماری را شفا میبخشيد.24شهرت معجزات او از مرزهای جليل نيز گذشت، به طوری كه حتی بيماران از سوريه میآمدند تا شفا يابند. عيسی هر نوع مرض و درد را شفا میداد و هر ديوانه و غشی و افليج را سلامتی میبخشيد.25او به هر جا كه گام مینهاد، انبوه جمعيت از جليل، دكاپوليس، اورشليم و سراسر يهوديه، و حتی از آن طرف رود اردن به دنبالش به راه میافتادند.
