1Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus* sent two of his disciples2and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.3If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’”4And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it.5And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”6And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go.7And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it.8And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields.9And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!10Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”11And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
Jesus Curses the Fig Tree
12On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry.13And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.14And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
15And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons.16And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple.17And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.”18And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because all the crowd was astonished at his teaching.19And when evening came they* went out of the city.
The Lesson from the Withered Fig Tree
20As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots.21And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.”22And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.23Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received* it, and it will be yours.25And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”*
The Authority of Jesus Challenged
27And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him,28and they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?”29Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.30Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.”31And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’32But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet.33So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

1هنگامی كه به حوالی اورشليم، به نزديكی بيتفاجی و بيتعنيا واقع در كوه زيتون رسيدند، عيسی دو نفر از شاگردان خود را جلوتر فرستاد و به ايشان فرمود:2«به دهكدهای كه در مقابل شماست برويد. هنگامی كه وارد شديد، كرّهٔ الاغی را خواهيد ديد كه بستهاند. تا به حال كسی بر آن سوار نشده است. آن را باز كنيد و به اينجا بياوريد.3و اگر كسی بپرسد چه میكنيد، فقط بگوييد: استادمان لازمش دارد و زود آن را پس خواهد فرستاد.»4آن دو شاگرد رفتند و كُرّه الاغ را يافتند كه در جادهای، كنار درِ خانهای بسته شده بود. وقتی كره را باز میكردند، عدهای كه در آن نزديكی ايستاده بودند، پرسيدند: «چه میكنيد؟ چرا كرّه را باز میكنيد؟»6پس آنچه عيسی فرموده بود، گفتند. آنان نيز اجازه دادند كه كُرّه را ببرند.7كُرّه را نزد عيسی آوردند و شاگردان ردای خود را بر پشت آن انداختند تا او سوار شود.8از ميان جمعيت نيز بسياری لباس خود را در راه پهن میكردند تا عيسی سوار بر كرّه از روی آنها عبور كند. بعضی نيز شاخههای درختان را بريده، سر راه او میگذاشتند.9مردم از هر سو او را احاطه كرده بودند و فرياد برمیآوردند: «خوش آمدی ای پادشاه! خدا را سپاس باد به خاطر او كه به نام خداوند میآيد…10خدا را سپاس باد كه سلطنت پدر ما داوود بار ديگر برقرار میشود. خوش آمدی ای پادشاه.»11به اين ترتيب، عيسی وارد اورشليم شد و به خانهٔ خدا رفت. او با دقت همه چيز را زير نظر گرفت و بيرون آمد. هنگام غروب، شهر را ترک گفت و همراه دوازده شاگرد خود به بيتعنيا رفت.
عيسی درخت انجير را لعنت میکند
12صبح روز بعد، هنگامی كه از بيتعنيا برمیگشتند، عيسی گرسنه شد.13كمی دورتر درخت انجير پربرگی ديد؛ پس به طرف آن رفت تا شايد انجيری پيدا كند. ولی روی آن جز برگ چيز ديگری نبود، چون هنوز فصل ميوه نرسيده بود.14عيسی به درخت فرمود: «از اين پس ديگر هرگز ميوه نخواهی داد.» و شاگردانش اين را شنيدند.
پاکسازی خانه خدا به دست عيسی
15هنگامی كه بار ديگر وارد اورشليم شدند، عيسی به خانهٔ خدا رفت و آنانی را كه در آنجا مشغول خريد و فروش بودند، بيرون راند و بساط صرافان و كبوترفروشان را واژگون ساخت،16و نگذاشت كسی با كالايی وارد محوطهٔ خانهٔ خدا شود.17سپس به مردم گفت: «خدا در كتاب آسمانی فرموده است: خانهٔ من، مكان عبادت برای تمام قومهاست. ولی شما آن را ميعادگاه دزدان ساختهايد.»18هنگامی كه كاهنان اعظم و سران قوم يهود از كار عيسی باخبر شدند، نقشهٔ قتل او را كشيدند. ولی میترسيدند كه مردم سر به شورش بگذارند، چون همه شيفتهٔ تعليمات عيسی بودند.19عصر آن روز، مانند روزهای ديگر از شهر بيرون رفتند.20صبح روز بعد، وقتی به اورشليم باز میگشتند، شاگردان درخت انجير را ديدند كه از ريشه خشک شده است.21پطرس به خاطر آورد كه عيسی روز قبل، درخت را نفرين كرده بود. پس با تعجب گفت: «استاد نگاه كنيد! درخت انجيری كه نفرين كرديد، خشک شده است!»22عيسی گفت: «اين كه میگويم عين حقيقت است: اگر به خدا ايمان داشته باشيد، میتوانيد به اين كوه زيتون بگوييد كه برخيزد و در دريا بيفتد، و فرمان شما را بیچون و چرا اطاعت خواهد كرد. فقط كافی است كه به آنچه میگوييد واقعاً ايمان داشته باشيد و شک به خود راه ندهيد.24خوب گوش كنيد: اگر ايمان داشته باشيد، هر چه در دعا بخواهيد خدا به شما خواهد داد.25«ولی وقتی دعا میكنيد اگر نسبت به كسی كينه داريد، او را ببخشيد، تا پدر آسمانی شما نيز از سر تقصيرات شما بگذرد و شما را ببخشد.»
اقتدار و اختيارات عيسی
26بار ديگر وارد اورشليم شدند. به محض اينكه عيسی قدم به خانهٔ خدا گذاشت، كاهنان اعظم و سران قوم يهود دور او را گرفتند و پرسيدند: «به چه حقی فروشندگان را از معبد بيرون كردی؟ چه كسی اين اختيار را به تو داده است؟»29عيسی فرمود: «من به شرطی جواب شما را میدهم كه اول به سؤال من جواب دهيد.30يحيی كه بود؟ آيا فرستادهٔ خدا بود يا نه؟ جواب مرا بدهيد.»31ايشان با يكديگر مشورت كردند و گفتند: «اگر بگوييم فرستادهٔ خدا بود، خواهد گفت پس چرا به او ايمان نياورديد؟32و اگر بگوييم فرستادهٔ خدا نبود، ممكن است مردم عليه ما قيام كنند.» زيرا همه مردم يحيی را پيامبری راستين میدانستند.33پس گفتند: «نمیتوانيم جواب بدهيم؛ نمیدانيم.» عيسی فرمود: «من نيز به پرسش شما جواب نمیدهم.»
