The Lord’s Chosen Servant

1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. 2 He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; 3 a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. 4 He will not grow faint or be discouraged* till he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law. 5 Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it: 6 “I am the Lord; I have called you* in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, 7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. 8 I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. 9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

Sing to the Lord a New Song

10 Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants. 11 Let the desert and its cities lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the habitants of Sela sing for joy, let them shout from the top of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare his praise in the coastlands. 13 The Lord goes out like a mighty man, like a man of war he stirs up his zeal; he cries out, he shouts aloud, he shows himself mighty against his foes. 14 For a long time I have held my peace; I have kept still and restrained myself; now I will cry out like a woman in labor; I will gasp and pant. 15 I will lay waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their vegetation; I will turn the rivers into islands,* and dry up the pools. 16 And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them. 17 They are turned back and utterly put to shame, who trust in carved idols, who say to metal images, “You are our gods.”

Israel’s Failure to Hear and See

18 Hear, you deaf, and look, you blind, that you may see! 19 Who is blind but my servant, or deaf as my messenger whom I send? Who is blind as my dedicated one,* or blind as the servant of the Lord? 20 He sees many things, but does not observe them; his ears are open, but he does not hear. 21 The Lord was pleased, for his righteousness’ sake, to magnify his law and make it glorious. 22 But this is a people plundered and looted; they are all of them trapped in holes and hidden in prisons; they have become plunder with none to rescue, spoil with none to say, “Restore!” 23 Who among you will give ear to this, will attend and listen for the time to come? 24 Who gave up Jacob to the looter, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the Lord, against whom we have sinned, in whose ways they would not walk, and whose law they would not obey? 25 So he poured on him the heat of his anger and the might of battle; it set him on fire all around, but he did not understand; it burned him up, but he did not take it to heart.

Robul Domnului

1 Iată, Robul Meu, pe Care Îl sprijin, Alesul Meu, în Care sufletul Meu Își găsește plăcerea! Voi pune Duhul Meu peste El, iar El va aduce neamurilor judecata. 2 Nu va striga, nici nu‑Și va ridica vocea și nu‑Și va face glasul să fie auzit pe stradă. 3 Nu va rupe trestia zdrobită și nu va stinge mucul care încă mai fumegă, ci cu credincioșie va aduce judecata. 4 El nu va slăbi și nu va fi zdrobit, până nu va așeza judecata pe pământ. Și insulele vor aștepta Legea Lui.“ 5 Așa vorbește Dumnezeu, DOMNUL Care a creat cerurile și le‑a întins, Care a desfășurat pământul împreună cu resursele lui, Care dă suflare oamenilor de pe el și duh celor ce umblă pe el: 6 „Eu, DOMNUL, Te‑am chemat prin dreptate. Te voi ține de mână; Te voi păzi și Te voi face un legământ pentru popor și o lumină pentru neamuri, 7 ca să deschizi ochii orbilor, să eliberezi pe prizonieri din captivitate și din temniță pe cei ce stau în întuneric. 8 Eu sunt DOMNUL. Acesta este Numele Meu! Nu‑Mi voi da slava altuia și nici lauda cuvenită Mie, chipurilor cioplite! 9 Iată, cele dintâi lucruri s‑au împlinit și acum vestesc altele noi; înainte să se împlinească vi le fac cunoscute.“

O cântare de laudă în cinstea Domnului

10 Cântați DOMNULUI o cântare nouă! Cântați‑I laudele de la marginile pământului, voi, care coborâți pe mare, și tot ceea ce este în ea, insule și locuitorii lor! 11 Să‑și ridice glasul pustia și cetățile ei, așezările locuite de Chedar! Să strige de bucurie locuitorii din Sela, să strige de pe vârfurile munților! 12 Să‑L slăvească pe DOMNUL și să vestească lauda Lui pe insule! 13 DOMNUL va înainta ca un viteaz; asemenea unui războinic Își stârnește râvna: strigă, scoate un strigăt de luptă și triumfă asupra dușmanilor săi. 14 „Am tăcut pentru multă vreme, am păstrat tăcerea și M‑am abținut, dar acum, ca o femeie care naște, voi striga, voi gâfâi și voi geme. 15 Voi pustii munții și dealurile, le voi usca toată verdeața! Voi preface râurile în insule* și voi seca iazurile! 16 Îi voi duce pe orbi pe un drum necunoscut de ei, pe cărări neștiute de ei îi voi conduce. Voi preface întunericul dinaintea lor în lumină, iar povârnișurile în loc neted. Acestea sunt lucrurile pe care le voi face pentru ei; nu‑i voi părăsi! 17 Dar cei ce se încred în chipuri cioplite, cei ce zic chipurilor turnate: «Voi sunteți dumnezeii noștri!» vor da înapoi, vor fi acoperiți de rușine.

Neascultarea lui Israel

18 Ascultați, surzilor! Priviți, orbilor, și vedeți! 19 Cine este orb, dacă nu robul Meu și surd ca mesagerul pe care l‑am trimis? Cine este orb precum cel aflat în legământ de pace cu Mine, orb ca robul DOMNULUI? 20 Vezi multe lucruri, dar nu le iei în seamă; ai deschis urechile, dar nu asculți cu adevărat.“ 21 DOMNUL a dorit, în numele dreptății Sale, să‑Și înalțe Legea și s‑o facă glorioasă. 22 Dar acest popor este prădat și jefuit; prinși în capcană, în gropi sunt cu toții și ascunși în temnițe; au devenit o pradă pe care nu este nimeni s‑o scape, ceva de jefuit despre care nimeni nu zice: „Dă‑l înapoi!“ 23 Cine dintre voi însă va lua aminte la aceasta? Cine va lua seama și va asculta pe viitor? 24 Cine l‑a dat pe Iacov pradă tâlharilor și pe Israel pe mâna jefuitorilor? Oare nu DOMNUL, împotriva Căruia am păcătuit? Ei n‑au vrut să umble pe căile Lui și să asculte de Legea Lui. 25 De aceea a turnat peste ei văpaia mâniei Lui și ferocitatea războiului; i‑a înconjurat cu flăcări, dar tot n‑au înțeles; i‑a mistuit, dar tot n‑au luat în seamă.
