1“You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God.2You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.3“If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them,4then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.5Your threshing shall last to the time of the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall last to the time for sowing. And you shall eat your bread to the full and dwell in your land securely.6I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. And I will remove harmful beasts from the land, and the sword shall not go through your land.7You shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.8Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand, and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.9I will turn to you and make you fruitful and multiply you and will confirm my covenant with you.10You shall eat old store long kept, and you shall clear out the old to make way for the new.11I will make my dwelling* among you, and my soul shall not abhor you.12And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people.13I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. And I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.
Punishment for Disobedience
14“But if you will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments,15if you spurn my statutes, and if your soul abhors my rules, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant,16then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.17I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck down before your enemies. Those who hate you shall rule over you, and you shall flee when none pursues you.18And if in spite of this you will not listen to me, then I will discipline you again sevenfold for your sins,19and I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.20And your strength shall be spent in vain, for your land shall not yield its increase, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.21“Then if you walk contrary to me and will not listen to me, I will continue striking you, sevenfold for your sins.22And I will let loose the wild beasts against you, which shall bereave you of your children and destroy your livestock and make you few in number, so that your roads shall be deserted.23“And if by this discipline you are not turned to me but walk contrary to me,24then I also will walk contrary to you, and I myself will strike you sevenfold for your sins.25And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute vengeance for the covenant. And if you gather within your cities, I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.26When I break your supply* of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in a single oven and shall dole out your bread again by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.27“But if in spite of this you will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me,28then I will walk contrary to you in fury, and I myself will discipline you sevenfold for your sins.29You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.30And I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars and cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols, and my soul will abhor you.31And I will lay your cities waste and will make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your pleasing aromas.32And I myself will devastate the land, so that your enemies who settle in it shall be appalled at it.33And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will unsheathe the sword after you, and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste.34“Then the land shall enjoy* its Sabbaths as long as it lies desolate, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land shall rest, and enjoy its Sabbaths.35As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, the rest that it did not have on your Sabbaths when you were dwelling in it.36And as for those of you who are left, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf shall put them to flight, and they shall flee as one flees from the sword, and they shall fall when none pursues.37They shall stumble over one another, as if to escape a sword, though none pursues. And you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.38And you shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.39And those of you who are left shall rot away in your enemies’ lands because of their iniquity, and also because of the iniquities of their fathers they shall rot away like them.40“But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their treachery that they committed against me, and also in walking contrary to me,41so that I walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies—if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and they make amends for their iniquity,42then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.43But the land shall be abandoned by them and enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them, and they shall make amends for their iniquity, because they spurned my rules and their soul abhorred my statutes.44Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not spurn them, neither will I abhor them so as to destroy them utterly and break my covenant with them, for I am the Lord their God.45But I will for their sake remember the covenant with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the Lord.”46These are the statutes and rules and laws that the Lord made between himself and the people of Israel through Moses on Mount Sinai.

1Ihr sollt euch keine Götzen machen und euch weder Bild noch Steinmal aufrichten, auch keinen Stein mit Bildwerk setzen in eurem Lande, um davor anzubeten; denn ich bin der HERR, euer Gott.2Haltet meine Sabbate und habt Ehrfurcht vor meinem Heiligtum. Ich bin der HERR.3Werdet ihr in meinen Satzungen wandeln und meine Gebote halten und tun,4so will ich euch Regen geben zur rechten Zeit und das Land soll seinen Ertrag geben und die Bäume auf dem Felde ihre Früchte bringen.5Und die Dreschzeit soll reichen bis zur Weinernte, und die Weinernte soll reichen bis zur Zeit der Saat. Und ihr sollt Brot die Fülle haben und sollt sicher in eurem Lande wohnen.6Ich will Frieden geben in eurem Lande, dass ihr schlaft und euch niemand aufschrecke. Ich will die wilden Tiere aus eurem Lande wegschaffen, und kein Schwert soll durch euer Land gehen.7Ihr sollt eure Feinde jagen, und sie sollen vor euch her dem Schwert verfallen.8Fünf von euch sollen hundert jagen, und hundert von euch sollen zehntausend jagen; denn eure Feinde sollen vor euch her dem Schwert verfallen.9Und ich will mich zu euch wenden und will euch fruchtbar machen und euch mehren und will meinen Bund mit euch halten.10Und ihr werdet noch von dem Vorjährigen essen und, wenn das Neue kommt, das Vorjährige wegtun müssen.11Ich will meine Wohnung unter euch haben und eurer nicht überdrüssig werden.12Und ich will unter euch wandeln und will euer Gott sein, und ihr sollt mein Volk sein.13Denn ich bin der HERR, euer Gott, der euch aus Ägyptenland geführt hat, dass ihr nicht ihre Knechte bleibt, und habe euer Joch zerbrochen und habe euch aufrecht einhergehen lassen.14Werdet ihr mir aber nicht gehorchen und nicht alle diese Gebote tun15und werdet ihr meine Satzungen verachten und meine Rechte verabscheuen, dass ihr nicht tut alle meine Gebote, und werdet ihr meinen Bund brechen,16so will auch ich euch dieses tun: Ich will euch heimsuchen mit Schrecken, mit Auszehrung und Fieber, dass euch die Augen erlöschen und das Leben hinschwindet. Ihr sollt umsonst euren Samen säen und eure Feinde sollen ihn essen.17Und ich will mein Antlitz gegen euch richten, und ihr sollt geschlagen werden vor euren Feinden, und die euch hassen, sollen über euch herrschen, und ihr sollt fliehen, ohne dass euch einer jagt.18Wenn ihr mir aber auch dann noch nicht gehorcht, so will ich euch noch weiter züchtigen, siebenfältig, um eurer Sünden willen,19dass ich eure stolze Macht breche, und will euren Himmel wie Eisen und eure Erde wie Erz machen.20Und eure Mühe und Arbeit soll verloren sein, dass euer Land seinen Ertrag nicht gebe und die Bäume im Lande ihre Früchte nicht bringen.21Und wenn ihr mir zuwiderhandelt und mich nicht hören wollt, so will ich euch noch weiter schlagen, siebenfältig, um eurer Sünden willen.22Und ich will wilde Tiere unter euch senden, die sollen eure Kinder fressen und euer Vieh zerreißen und euch vermindern, und eure Straßen sollen verlassen sein.23Werdet ihr euch aber damit noch nicht von mir zurechtbringen lassen und mir zuwiderhandeln,24so will auch ich euch zuwiderhandeln und will euch siebenfältig mehr schlagen um eurer Sünden willen25und will ein Racheschwert über euch bringen, das meinen Bund rächen soll. Und wenn ihr euch auch in eure Städte flüchtet, will ich doch die Pest unter euch senden und will euch in die Hände eurer Feinde geben.26Dann will ich euch den Vorrat an Brot verderben; zehn Frauen sollen euer Brot in einem einzigen Ofen backen und euer Brot soll man euch nach Gewicht zuteilen, und wenn ihr esst, sollt ihr nicht satt werden.27Werdet ihr mir aber auch dann noch nicht gehorchen und mir zuwiderhandeln,28so will auch ich euch im Grimm zuwiderhandeln und will euch siebenfältig mehr züchtigen um eurer Sünden willen,29dass ihr sollt eurer Söhne und Töchter Fleisch essen.30Und ich will eure Opferhöhen vertilgen und eure Räucheraltäre ausrotten und will eure Leichname auf die Leichname eurer Götzen werfen und werde an euch Ekel haben.31Und ich will eure Städte wüst machen und eure Heiligtümer verheeren und will den lieblichen Geruch eurer Opfer nicht mehr riechen.32So will ich das Land wüst machen, dass eure Feinde, die darin wohnen werden, sich davor entsetzen.33Euch aber will ich unter die Völker zerstreuen und mit gezücktem Schwert hinter euch her sein, dass euer Land soll wüst sein und eure Städte zerstört.34Alsdann wird das Land seine Sabbate nachholen, solange es wüst liegt und ihr in der Feinde Land seid; ja, dann wird das Land ruhen und seine Sabbate nachholen.35Solange es wüst liegt, wird es ruhen, weil es nicht ruhen konnte an euren Sabbaten, während ihr darin wohntet.36Und denen, die von euch übrig bleiben, will ich ein feiges Herz machen in ihrer Feinde Land, dass sie ein raschelndes Blatt soll jagen, und sie sollen davor fliehen, als jagte sie ein Schwert, und fallen, wo sie doch niemand jagt.37Und einer soll über den andern hinfallen, als wäre das Schwert hinter ihnen, wo sie doch niemand jagt, und ihr sollt nicht bestehen können gegen eure Feinde.38Und ihr sollt umkommen unter den Völkern, und eurer Feinde Land soll euch fressen.39Die aber von euch übrig bleiben, die sollen in der Feinde Land dahinschwinden wegen ihrer Missetat, aber auch um der Missetat ihrer Väter willen.
Umkehr des Volkes und Treue des Herrn
40Da werden sie dann bekennen ihre Missetat und ihrer Väter Missetat, dass sie mir untreu gewesen sind und sich mir entgegengestellt haben.41So will auch ich mich ihnen entgegenstellen und sie in das Land ihrer Feinde wegführen. Dann wird sich ja ihr unbeschnittenes Herz demütigen, und sie werden die Strafe für ihre Missetat abtragen.42Und ich werde gedenken an meinen Bund mit Jakob und an meinen Bund mit Isaak und an meinen Bund mit Abraham und werde an das Land gedenken.43Aber das Land wird von ihnen verlassen sein und seine Sabbate nachholen, solange es wüst liegt, und sie werden die Strafe für ihre Missetat abtragen, weil sie wieder und wieder meine Rechte verachtet und an meinen Satzungen Ekel gehabt haben.44Aber wenn sie auch in der Feinde Land sind, verwerfe ich sie dennoch nicht, und es ekelt mich nicht vor ihnen, sodass es mit ihnen aus sein sollte und mein Bund mit ihnen nicht mehr gelten sollte; denn ich bin der HERR, ihr Gott.45Und ich will ihnen zugut an meinen Bund mit den Vorfahren gedenken, die ich aus Ägyptenland führte vor den Augen der Völker, auf dass ich ihr Gott wäre, ich, der HERR.46Dies sind die Satzungen und Rechte und Gesetze, die der HERR zwischen sich und den Israeliten aufgerichtet hat auf dem Berge Sinai durch die Hand des Mose.
