Water Flowing from the Temple

1 Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar. 2 Then he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate that faces toward the east; and behold, the water was trickling out on the south side. 3 Going on eastward with a measuring line in his hand, the man measured a thousand cubits,* and then led me through the water, and it was ankle-deep. 4 Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was knee-deep. Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was waist-deep. 5 Again he measured a thousand, and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had risen. It was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be passed through. 6 And he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he led me back to the bank of the river. 7 As I went back, I saw on the bank of the river very many trees on the one side and on the other. 8 And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, and enters the sea;* when the water flows into the sea, the water will become fresh.* 9 And wherever the river goes,* every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea* may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes. 10 Fishermen will stand beside the sea. From Engedi to Eneglaim it will be a place for the spreading of nets. Its fish will be of very many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea.* 11 But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they are to be left for salt. 12 And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”

Division of the Land

13 Thus says the Lord God: “This is the boundary* by which you shall divide the land for inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph shall have two portions. 14 And you shall divide equally what I swore to give to your fathers. This land shall fall to you as your inheritance. 15 “This shall be the boundary of the land: On the north side, from the Great Sea by way of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, and on to Zedad,* 16 Berothah, Sibraim (which lies on the border between Damascus and Hamath), as far as Hazer-hatticon, which is on the border of Hauran. 17 So the boundary shall run from the sea to Hazar-enan, which is on the northern border of Damascus, with the border of Hamath to the north.* This shall be the north side.* 18 “On the east side, the boundary shall run between Hauran and Damascus; along the Jordan between Gilead and the land of Israel; to the eastern sea and as far as Tamar.* This shall be the east side. 19 “On the south side, it shall run from Tamar as far as the waters of Meribah-kadesh, from there along the Brook of Egypt* to the Great Sea. This shall be the south side. 20 “On the west side, the Great Sea shall be the boundary to a point opposite Lebo-hamath. This shall be the west side. 21 “So you shall divide this land among you according to the tribes of Israel. 22 You shall allot it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the sojourners who reside among you and have had children among you. They shall be to you as native-born children of Israel. With you they shall be allotted an inheritance among the tribes of Israel. 23 In whatever tribe the sojourner resides, there you shall assign him his inheritance, declares the Lord God.

Der Lebensstrom aus dem Tempel

1 Und er führte mich wieder zu der Tür des Tempels. Und siehe, da floss ein Wasser heraus unter der Schwelle des Tempels nach Osten; denn die vordere Seite des Tempels lag gegen Osten. Und das Wasser lief unten an der südlichen Seitenwand des Tempels hinab, südlich am Altar vorbei. 2 Und er führte mich hinaus durch das Tor im Norden und brachte mich außen herum zum äußeren Tor im Osten; und siehe, das Wasser entsprang seiner südlichen Seitenwand. 3 Und der Mann ging heraus nach Osten und hatte eine Messschnur in der Hand, und er maß tausend Ellen und ließ mich durch das Wasser gehen; da ging es mir bis an die Knöchel. 4 Und er maß abermals tausend Ellen und ließ mich durch das Wasser gehen: Da ging es mir bis an die Knie; und er maß noch tausend Ellen und ließ mich durch das Wasser gehen: Da ging es mir bis an die Lenden. 5 Da maß er noch tausend Ellen: Da war es ein Strom, so tief, dass ich nicht mehr hindurchgehen konnte; denn das Wasser war so hoch, dass man schwimmen musste und nicht hindurchgehen konnte. 6 Und er sprach zu mir: Hast du das gesehen, Menschenkind? Und er führte mich zurück am Ufer des Flusses entlang. 7 Und als ich zurückkam, siehe, da standen sehr viele Bäume am Ufer auf beiden Seiten. 8 Und er sprach zu mir: Dies Wasser fließt hinaus in das östliche Gebiet und weiter hinab zum Jordantal und mündet ins Tote Meer. Und wenn es ins Meer fließt, soll dessen Wasser gesund werden, 9 und alles, was darin lebt und webt, wohin der Strom kommt, das soll leben. Und es soll sehr viele Fische dort geben, wenn dieses Wasser dorthin kommt; und alles soll gesund werden und leben, wohin dieser Strom kommt. 10 Und es werden an ihm die Fischer stehen. Von En-Gedi bis nach En-Eglajim wird man die Netze zum Trocknen aufspannen; denn es wird dort sehr viele Fische von aller Art geben wie im großen Meer. 11 Aber die Teiche und Lachen daneben werden nicht gesund werden, sondern man soll daraus Salz gewinnen. 12 Und an dem Strom werden an seinem Ufer auf beiden Seiten allerlei fruchtbare Bäume wachsen; und ihre Blätter werden nicht verwelken und mit ihren Früchten hat es kein Ende. Sie werden alle Monate neue Früchte bringen; denn ihr Wasser fließt aus dem Heiligtum. Ihre Früchte werden zur Speise dienen und ihre Blätter zur Arznei.

Die Grenzen des Landes

13 So spricht Gott der HERR: Dies sind die Grenzen, nach denen ihr das Land den zwölf Stämmen Israels austeilen sollt; zwei Teile gehören dem Stamm Josef. 14 Und ihr sollt es als Erbteil bekommen, einer wie der andere; denn ich habe meine Hand aufgehoben zum Schwur, dies Land euren Vätern zu geben, und so soll es euch als Erbteil zufallen. 15 Dies ist nun die Grenze des Landes gegen Norden: von dem großen Meer an auf Hetlon zu nach Zedad, 16 Hamat, Berota, Sibrajim, das an Damaskus und Hamat grenzt, und Hazar-Enan, das an den Hauran grenzt. 17 Und so soll die Grenze laufen vom Meer an bis nach Hazar-Enan, und Damaskus und Hamat sollen nördlich liegen bleiben. Das sei die Grenze gegen Norden. 18 Aber die Grenze gegen Osten: von Hazar-Enan, das zwischen dem Hauran und Damaskus liegt, der Jordan zwischen Gilead und dem Lande Israel bis hinab ans östliche Meer nach Tamar. Das soll die Grenze gegen Osten sein. 19 Aber die Grenze gegen Süden läuft von Tamar bis an das Haderwasser von Kadesch und den Bach Ägyptens hinab bis an das große Meer. Das soll die Grenze gegen Süden sein. 20 Und an der Seite gegen Westen ist das große Meer die Grenze bis dahin, wo es nach Hamat geht. Das sei die Grenze gegen Westen.

Verteilung des Landes im Norden

21 Und ihr sollt dies Land austeilen unter die Stämme Israels, 22 und wenn ihr das Los werft, um das Land unter euch zu teilen, so sollt ihr die Fremdlinge, die bei euch wohnen und Kinder unter euch zeugen, halten wie die Einheimischen unter den Israeliten; mit euch sollen sie ihren Erbbesitz erhalten unter den Stämmen Israels, 23 und ihr sollt auch ihnen ihren Anteil am Lande geben, jedem bei dem Stamm, bei dem er wohnt, spricht Gott der HERR.
