Those Excluded from the Assembly

1 “No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord. 2 “No one born of a forbidden union may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of his descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord. 3 “No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever, 4 because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you. 5 But the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam; instead the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loved you. 6 You shall not seek their peace or their prosperity all your days forever. 7 “You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you were a sojourner in his land. 8 Children born to them in the third generation may enter the assembly of the Lord.

Uncleanness in the Camp

9 “When you are encamped against your enemies, then you shall keep yourself from every evil thing. 10 “If any man among you becomes unclean because of a nocturnal emission, then he shall go outside the camp. He shall not come inside the camp, 11 but when evening comes, he shall bathe himself in water, and as the sun sets, he may come inside the camp. 12 “You shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out to it. 13 And you shall have a trowel with your tools, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig a hole with it and turn back and cover up your excrement. 14 Because the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you.

Miscellaneous Laws

15 “You shall not give up to his master a slave* who has escaped from his master to you. 16 He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place that he shall choose within one of your towns, wherever it suits him. You shall not wrong him. 17 “None of the daughters of Israel shall be a cult prostitute, and none of the sons of Israel shall be a cult prostitute. 18 You shall not bring the fee of a prostitute or the wages of a dog* into the house of the Lord your God in payment for any vow, for both of these are an abomination to the Lord your God. 19 “You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest. 20 You may charge a foreigner interest, but you may not charge your brother interest, that the Lord your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 21 “If you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin. 22 But if you refrain from vowing, you will not be guilty of sin. 23 You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth. 24 “If you go into your neighbor’s vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes, as many as you wish, but you shall not put any in your bag. 25 If you go into your neighbor’s standing grain, you may pluck the ears with your hand, but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor’s standing grain.

Wer in die Gemeinde des Herrn nicht aufgenommen werden darf

2 Kein Entmannter oder Verschnittener soll in die Gemeinde des HERRN kommen. 3 Es soll auch kein Mischling in die Gemeinde des HERRN kommen; auch seine Nachkommenschaft bis ins zehnte Glied soll nicht in die Gemeinde des HERRN kommen. 4 Die Ammoniter und Moabiter sollen nicht in die Gemeinde des HERRN kommen, auch nicht ihre Nachkommen bis ins zehnte Glied; sie sollen nie hineinkommen, 5 weil sie euch nicht entgegenkamen mit Brot und Wasser auf dem Wege, als ihr aus Ägypten zogt. Vielmehr haben sie gegen dich den Bileam gedungen, den Sohn Beors aus Petor in Mesopotamien, dass er dich verfluchen sollte. 6 Aber der HERR, dein Gott, wollte Bileam nicht hören und wandelte dir den Fluch in Segen um, weil dich der HERR, dein Gott, lieb hatte. 7 Du sollst nie ihren Frieden noch ihr Bestes suchen dein Leben lang. 8 Den Edomiter sollst du nicht verabscheuen; er ist dein Bruder. Den Ägypter sollst du auch nicht verabscheuen; denn du bist ein Fremdling in seinem Lande gewesen. 9 Die Kinder, die sie im dritten Glied zeugen, dürfen in die Gemeinde des HERRN kommen.

Reinhaltung des Kriegslagers

10 Wenn du ausziehst gegen deine Feinde und ein Lager aufschlägst, so hüte dich vor allem Bösen. 11 Wenn jemand unter dir ist, der nicht rein ist, weil ihm des Nachts etwas widerfahren ist, der soll hinaus vor das Lager gehen und nicht wieder hineinkommen, 12 bis er vor dem Abend sich mit Wasser gewaschen hat; und wenn die Sonne untergegangen ist, soll er wieder ins Lager gehen. 13 Und du sollst draußen vor dem Lager einen Platz haben, wohin du zur Notdurft hinausgehst. 14 Und du sollst eine Schaufel bei dir haben, und wenn du dich draußen setzen willst, sollst du damit graben; und wenn du gesessen hast, sollst du zuscharren, was von dir gegangen ist. 15 Denn der HERR, dein Gott, zieht mit dir inmitten deines Lagers, um dich zu erretten und deine Feinde vor dir dahinzugeben. Darum soll dein Lager heilig sein, dass nichts Schändliches unter dir gesehen werde und er sich von dir wende.

Gebote für das Leben des Volkes

16 Du sollst den Knecht nicht seinem Herrn ausliefern, der von ihm zu dir geflüchtet ist. 17 Er soll bei dir bleiben an dem Ort, den er erwählt, in einer deiner Städte, wo es ihm gefällt. Du sollst ihn nicht bedrücken. 18 Es soll keine Tempeldirne sein unter den Töchtern Israel und kein Tempelhurer unter den Söhnen Israel. 19 Du sollst keinen Hurenlohn noch Hundegeld* in das Haus des HERRN, deines Gottes, bringen aus irgendeinem Gelübde; denn das ist dem HERRN, deinem Gott, beides ein Gräuel. 20 Du sollst von deinem Bruder nicht Zinsen nehmen, weder für Geld noch für Speise noch für alles, wofür man Zinsen nehmen kann. 21 Von dem Ausländer darfst du Zinsen nehmen, aber nicht von deinem Bruder, auf dass dich der HERR, dein Gott, segne in allem, was du unternimmst in dem Lande, dahin du kommst, es einzunehmen. 22 Wenn du dem HERRN, deinem Gott, ein Gelübde tust, so sollst du nicht zögern, es zu erfüllen; denn der HERR, dein Gott, wird’s von dir fordern, und es wird Schuld auf dich fallen. 23 Wenn du das Geloben unterlässt, so wird keine Schuld auf dich fallen. 24 Aber was über deine Lippen gegangen ist, sollst du halten und danach tun, wie du dem HERRN, deinem Gott, freiwillig gelobt und mit deinem Mund geredet hast. 25 Wenn du in deines Nächsten Weinberg gehst, so darfst du Trauben essen nach deinem Wunsch, bis du satt bist, aber du sollst nichts in dein Gefäß tun. 26 Wenn du in das Kornfeld deines Nächsten gehst, so darfst du mit der Hand Ähren abrupfen, aber mit der Sichel sollst du nicht dreinfahren.
