God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:2“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked?3Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.4Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”5They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.6I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;7nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.”*8Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations!

1Ein Lied von Asaf. Gott steht auf inmitten der Götter*, in ihrer Versammlung erhebt er Anklage:2»Wie lange noch wollt ihr das Recht verdrehen, wenn ihr eure Urteile sprecht? Wie lange noch wollt ihr Partei ergreifen für Menschen, die sich mir widersetzen?3Verhelft den Wehrlosen und Waisen zu ihrem Recht! Behandelt die Armen und Bedürftigen, wie es ihnen zusteht!4Reißt sie aus den Klauen ihrer Unterdrücker!«5Aber sie handeln ohne Sinn und Verstand; sie irren im Dunkeln umher und sehen nicht, dass durch ihre Bosheit die Welt ins Wanken gerät.6Zwar hatte ich ihnen gesagt: »Ihr seid Götter! Ihr alle seid Söhne des Höchsten!7Aber wie gewöhnliche Menschen müsst auch ihr sterben; euer Leben wird genauso enden wie das eines jeden Herrschers!«8Erhebe dich, Gott, und richte die Welt, denn dir gehören alle Völker!
