Wenn der HERR nicht die Stadt bewacht, dann wachen die Wächter vergeblich.2Ihr steht frühmorgens auf und gönnt euch erst spät am Abend Ruhe, um das sauer verdiente Brot zu essen. Doch ohne Gottes Segen ist alles umsonst! Denen, die er liebt, gibt Gott alles Nötige im Schlaf!*3Auch Kinder sind ein Geschenk des HERRN; wer sie empfängt, wird damit reich belohnt.4Die Söhne, die man im jungen Alter bekommt, sind wie Pfeile in der Hand eines Kriegers.5Wer viele solcher Pfeile in seinem Köcher hat, der ist wirklich glücklich zu nennen! Seine Söhne werden ihm Recht verschaffen, wenn seine Feinde ihn vor Gericht anklagen.
