Our Eyes Look to the Lord Our God

1 A Song of Ascents. To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens! 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he has mercy upon us. 3 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt. 4 Our soul has had more than enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

1 Ein Lied für Festbesucher, die nach Jerusalem hinaufziehen. HERR, ich richte meine Augen auf dich, ich schaue zum Himmel hinauf, wo du wohnst. 2 Wie ein Diener auf ein Handzeichen seines Herrn wartet und eine Magd auf einen Wink ihrer Herrin – so blicken wir auf den HERRN, unseren Gott, bis er uns ein Zeichen seiner Gnade gibt. 3 Hab Erbarmen mit uns, HERR, hilf uns! Schon viel zu lange haben wir Verachtung erlitten! 4 Wir haben das Gespött dieser Leute satt, die so überheblich und selbstsicher sind! Wir können es nicht länger ertragen, dass uns diese Hochmütigen verachten!
