1In the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah* the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord.2Thus the Lord said to me: “Make yourself straps and yoke-bars, and put them on your neck.3Send word* to the king of Edom, the king of Moab, the king of the sons of Ammon, the king of Tyre, and the king of Sidon by the hand of the envoys who have come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.4Give them this charge for their masters: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: This is what you shall say to your masters:5“It is I who by my great power and my outstretched arm have made the earth, with the men and animals that are on the earth, and I give it to whomever it seems right to me.6Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, my servant, and I have given him also the beasts of the field to serve him.7All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson, until the time of his own land comes. Then many nations and great kings shall make him their slave.8““But if any nation or kingdom will not serve this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, declares the Lord, until I have consumed it by his hand.9So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your fortune-tellers, or your sorcerers, who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon.’10For it is a lie that they are prophesying to you, with the result that you will be removed far from your land, and I will drive you out, and you will perish.11But any nation that will bring its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave on its own land, to work it and dwell there, declares the Lord.”’”12To Zedekiah king of Judah I spoke in like manner: “Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people and live.13Why will you and your people die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as the Lord has spoken concerning any nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?14Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon,’ for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you.15I have not sent them, declares the Lord, but they are prophesying falsely in my name, with the result that I will drive you out and you will perish, you and the prophets who are prophesying to you.”16Then I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: Do not listen to the words of your prophets who are prophesying to you, saying, ‘Behold, the vessels of the Lord’s house will now shortly be brought back from Babylon,’ for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you.17Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city become a desolation?18If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, then let them intercede with the Lord of hosts, that the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon.19For thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the pillars, the sea, the stands, and the rest of the vessels that are left in this city,20which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take away, when he took into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem—21thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem:22They shall be carried to Babylon and remain there until the day when I visit them, declares the Lord. Then I will bring them back and restore them to this place.”

1Zidkija,* der Sohn von Joschija, war noch nicht lange König von Juda, da erging an mich, Jeremia, das Wort des HERRN, er sagte zu mir:2»Mach dir aus Hölzern und Stricken Joche und leg sie dir auf den Nacken.3Dann schicke sie den Königen von Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyrus und Sidon. Sag ihren Gesandten, die zu König Zidkija nach Jerusalem gekommen sind:4›Der Gott Israels, der Herrscher der Welt,* befiehlt euch, euren Königen auszurichten:5Ich bin es, der durch seine gewaltige Kraft und Macht die Erde geschaffen hat mit allen Menschen und Tieren, die darauf leben. Ich kann sie geben, wem ich will.6Jetzt gebe ich alle eure Länder in die Hand meines Bevollmächtigten, des Königs Nebukadnezzar von Babylonien; selbst die wilden Tiere habe ich zu seinen Untertanen gemacht.7Alle Völker sollen ihm dienen, ihm, seinem Sohn und seinem Enkel, bis auch für sein eigenes Land die Zeit kommt, dass es großen Völkern und mächtigen Königen unterworfen wird.8Will aber ein Volk oder Reich König Nebukadnezzar nicht dienen und den Nacken nicht unter sein Joch beugen, so werde ich den König von Babylonien gegen dieses Volk schicken, bis ich es durch Schwert, Hunger und Pest völlig vernichtet habe. Das sage ich, der HERR.9Hört nicht auf eure Propheten und auf alle, die mithilfe von Träumen, Totenbeschwörungen oder Zauberei die Zukunft voraussagen wollen. Sie reden euch ein, dass ihr euch dem König von Babylonien nicht unterwerfen müsst.10Aber sie lügen! Wenn ihr auf sie hört, werdet ihr aus eurer Heimat vertrieben; ich muss euch verstoßen und ihr werdet zugrunde gehen.11Wenn aber ein Volk seinen Nacken unter das Joch des Königs von Babylonien beugt und sich ihm unterwirft, lasse ich es ungestört auf seinem heimatlichen Boden; es kann ihn bebauen und dort wohnen bleiben. Das sage ich, der HERR.‹«12Dasselbe sagte Jeremia* auch zu Zidkija, dem König von Juda: »Beugt euren Nacken unter das Joch des Königs von Babylonien; unterwerft euch ihm und seinem Volk. Dann bleibt ihr am Leben.13Oder willst du mit deinem Volk umkommen durch Schwert, Hunger oder Pest? Ein solches Ende hat der HERR jedem Volk angedroht, das sich dem König von Babylonien nicht unterwerfen will.14Hört nicht auf die Propheten, die zu euch sagen: ›Unterwerft euch doch nicht dem König von Babylonien!‹ Sie führen euch ins Unglück.15Der HERR sagt: ›Ich habe sie nicht gesandt. Sie lügen, wenn sie behaupten, in meinem Auftrag zu reden. Wenn ihr auf sie hört, muss ich euch verstoßen. Ihr werdet zugrunde gehen, ihr und die Propheten, die euch belügen!‹«16Zu den Priestern und dem ganzen Volk sagte Jeremia: »So spricht der HERR: ›Hört nicht auf eure Propheten, die euch einreden wollen, dass die heiligen Geräte des Tempels bald aus Babylon zurückgebracht werden. Sie lügen euch an!17Hört nicht auf sie! Unterwerft euch dem König von Babylonien, dann bleibt ihr am Leben. Warum soll diese Stadt ein Trümmerfeld werden?18Wären diese Leute wirklich Propheten, bei denen das Wort des HERRN zu finden ist, dann würden sie etwas anderes tun: Sie würden den HERRN, den Herrscher der Welt,* bestürmen, dass er die wenigen Schätze, die noch im Tempel, im Königspalast und in der Stadt geblieben sind, nicht auch noch nach Babylon wegbringen lässt!‹19Noch sind sie hier: die beiden bronzenen Säulen, das große Bronzebecken, die Kesselwagen und ein Rest der anderen Geräte; Nebukadnezzar, der König von Babylonien, hat sie nicht mitgenommen, als er Jojachin, den Sohn Jojakims, den König von Juda, mit allen einflussreichen Leuten aus Juda und Jerusalem nach Babylonien weggeführt hat. Aber der HERR, der Herrscher der Welt, der Gott Israels, sagt: ›Die Schätze, die im Tempel, im Königspalast und in der Stadt übrig geblieben sind,22werden auch noch nach Babylon gebracht; und dort werden sie bleiben, bis ich selbst dafür sorge, dass sie hierher zurückkommen.‹«
