Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. 3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and good success* in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh* and refreshment* to your bones. 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. 11 My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, 12 for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom

13 Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, 14 for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. 15 She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. 19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, do not lose sight of these— keep sound wisdom and discretion, 22 and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. 23 Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24 If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin* of the wicked, when it comes, 26 for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. 27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,* when it is in your power to do it. 28 Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you. 29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you. 30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm. 31 Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways, 32 for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence. 33 The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the dwelling of the righteous. 34 Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor.* 35 The wise will inherit honor, but fools get* disgrace.

Exhortación a la obediencia

1 Hijo mío, no olvides mis enseñanzas, Y tu corazón guarde mis mandamientos. 2 Porque largura de días, y años de vida, Y paz te aumentarán. 3 Nunca se aparten de ti la misericordia y la verdad, Átalas a tu cuello, escríbelas en la tabla de tu corazón, 4 Y hallarás gracia y buena opinión Ante los ojos de Dios y del hombre. 5 Confía en YHVH con todo tu corazón, Y no te apoyes en tu propia inteligencia. 6 Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, Y Él enderezará tus sendas. 7 No seas sabio en tu propia opinión. Teme a YHVH, y apártate del mal, 8 Porque será medicina a tu ombligo, Y tuétano a tus huesos. 9 Honra a YHVH con tus bienes, Y con las primicias de todos tus frutos, 10 Y tus graneros se henchirán de abundancia, Y tus lagares rebosarán de mosto. 11 Hijo mío, no menosprecies el castigo de YHVH, Ni te fatigues de su corrección, 12 Porque YHVH al que ama disciplina, Como el padre al hijo en quien se complace. 13 Bienaventurado el hombre que halla la sabiduría, Y el mortal que obtiene la inteligencia. 14 Porque su provecho es mayor que el de la plata, Y su resultado es mejor que el oro fino. 15 Es más preciosa que las piedras preciosas, Nada de lo que desees puede compararse con ella. 16 En su diestra hay abundancia de días, Y en su izquierda, riquezas y honra. 17 Sus caminos son caminos deleitosos, Y todas sus sendas son sendas de paz. 18 Es árbol de vida a los que echan mano de ella, Y los que la retienen son bienaventurados. 19 YHVH fundó la tierra con sabiduría, Y con inteligencia estableció los cielos, 20 Y por su ciencia fueron divididos los abismos, Y las nubes destilan el rocío. 21 Hijo mío, no se aparten estas cosas de tus ojos, Guarda la prudencia y el discernimiento, 22 Y serán vida a tu alma, Y gracia a tu garganta. 23 Entonces andarás con seguridad en tu camino, Y tu pie no tropezará. 24 Cuando te acuestes, no tendrás temor, Te acostarás, y tu sueño será dulce. 25 No temerás el pavor repentino, Ni el ataque de los impíos cuando venga, 26 Porque YHVH será tu confianza, Y Él guardará tu pie para que no sea atrapado. 27 No niegues el bien a quien es debido, Cuando está en tu mano el hacerlo. 28 No digas a tu prójimo: Anda y ven de nuevo, que mañana te lo daré, Cuando contigo tienes qué darle. 29 No trames el mal contra el prójimo Que habita confiado junto a ti. 30 No tengas pleito con nadie sin causa, Si no te ha hecho agravio. 31 No envidies al hombre violento, Ni escojas ninguno de sus caminos, 32 Porque YHVH aborrece al perverso, Y su íntima comunión es con los rectos. 33 La maldición de YHVH gravita sobre la casa del impío, Al paso que bendice la morada de los justos. 34 Ciertamente a los escarnecedores escarnece, Y da gracia a los humildes. 35 Los sabios heredarán honra, Los necios, ignominia.
