1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.2At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah.3For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying, “Why do you prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it;4Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.5And he shall take Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he shall remain until I visit him, declares the Lord. Though you fight against the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed’?”6Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me:7Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you and say, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth, for the right of redemption by purchase is yours.’8Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the Lord, and said to me, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.9“And I bought the field at Anathoth from Hanamel my cousin, and weighed out the money to him, seventeen shekels of silver.10I signed the deed, sealed it, got witnesses, and weighed the money on scales.11Then I took the sealed deed of purchase, containing the terms and conditions and the open copy.12And I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my cousin, in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of purchase, and in the presence of all the Judeans who were sitting in the court of the guard.13I charged Baruch in their presence, saying,14‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, both this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and put them in an earthenware vessel, that they may last for a long time.15For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.’

16“After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord, saying:17‘Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.18You show steadfast love to thousands, but you repay the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts,19great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of man, rewarding each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.20You have shown signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and to this day in Israel and among all mankind, and have made a name for yourself, as at this day.21You brought your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and outstretched arm, and with great terror.22And you gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.23And they entered and took possession of it. But they did not obey your voice or walk in your law. They did nothing of all you commanded them to do. Therefore you have made all this disaster come upon them.24Behold, the siege mounds have come up to the city to take it, and because of sword and famine and pestilence the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What you spoke has come to pass, and behold, you see it.25Yet you, O Lord God, have said to me, “Buy the field for money and get witnesses”—though the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.’”26The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah:27“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?28Therefore, thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hands of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall capture it.29The Chaldeans who are fighting against this city shall come and set this city on fire and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs offerings have been made to Baal and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods, to provoke me to anger.30For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done nothing but evil in my sight from their youth. The children of Israel have done nothing but provoke me to anger by the work of their hands, declares the Lord.31This city has aroused my anger and wrath, from the day it was built to this day, so that I will remove it from my sight32because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah that they did to provoke me to anger—their kings and their officials, their priests and their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.33They have turned to me their back and not their face. And though I have taught them persistently, they have not listened to receive instruction.34They set up their abominations in the house that is called by my name, to defile it.35They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
They Shall Be My People; I Will Be Their God
36“Now therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, ‘It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence’:37Behold, I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in great indignation. I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in safety.38And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.39I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them.40I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.41I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.42“For thus says the Lord: Just as I have brought all this great disaster upon this people, so I will bring upon them all the good that I promise them.43Fields shall be bought in this land of which you are saying, ‘It is a desolation, without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’44Fields shall be bought for money, and deeds shall be signed and sealed and witnessed, in the land of Benjamin, in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb; for I will restore their fortunes, declares the Lord.”

1Oráculo de YHVH que recibió Jeremías en el año décimo de Sedequías rey de Judá, año decimoctavo de Nabucodonosor.2En aquel tiempo el ejército del rey de Babilonia tenía sitiada a Jerusalem, y el profeta Jeremías estaba preso en el atrio de la guardia de la casa del rey de Judá.3Sedequías, rey de Judá, lo había encarcelado, acusándolo: Tú has profetizado diciendo: Así dice YHVH: Yo entregaré esta ciudad en mano del rey de Babilonia para que la conquiste.4Sedequías, rey de Judá, no escapará de la mano de los caldeos, sino que será entregado sin falta en mano del rey de Babilonia, que le hablará cara a cara, y sus ojos verán sus ojos.5Y hará llevar a Sedequías a Babilonia y allá estará hasta que Yo lo visite. Si combatís a los caldeos, no os irá bien, dice YHVH.6Dijo pues Jeremías: La palabra de YHVH vino a mí diciendo:7Mira, Hanameel, hijo de tu tío Salum, viene para decirte: Cómprame mi heredad que está en Anatot, porque tú tienes el derecho de redención para comprarla.8Y conforme a la palabra de YHVH, Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, vino a mí al atrio de la guardia, y me dijo: Te ruego que compres mi heredad, que está en Anatot en tierra de Benjamín, porque el derecho de heredad es tuyo, y a ti corresponde el rescate: cómprala para ti. Y yo comprendí que era palabra de YHVH.9Compré pues de Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, la heredad que estaba en Anatot, y le pesé el dinero: diecisiete siclos de plata.10Y escribí el contrato, lo sellé, lo hice certificar con testigos, y le pesé el dinero en balanza.11Tomé luego el contrato de venta, tanto el sellado según el derecho y costumbre, como la copia abierta.12Y di la escritura de propiedad a Baruc ben Nerías, hijo de Maasías, delante de Hanameel, el hijo de mi tío, y delante de los testigos que habían suscrito la escritura de propiedad, delante de todos los judíos que estaban sentados en el patio de la cárcel.13Y encargué a Baruc delante de ellos, diciendo:14Así dice YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel: Toma estas escrituras, esta escritura de propiedad sellada, y esta otra escritura abierta, y ponlas en una vasija de barro, para que se conserven muchos días.15Porque así dice YHVH Sebaot, Dios de Israel: Aún se han de comprar casas, heredades y viñas en esta tierra.16Y después que di la escritura de propiedad a Baruc ben Nerías, oré a YHVH, diciendo:17¡Oh Adonay YHVH! he aquí Tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra con tu gran poder y con tu brazo extendido, y no hay cosa alguna que sea demasiado difícil para ti.18Tú tratas con misericordia a millares, y castigas la maldad de los padres en sus hijos después de ellos. ’Elohim grande y poderoso, YHVH Sebaot es su nombre.19Grande en consejo y poderoso en obras, cuyos ojos están abiertos sobre todos los caminos de los hijos de Adam, para dar a cada uno según sus caminos y según el fruto de sus obras.20Tú hiciste señales y portentos en Egipto, notorios hasta hoy, en Israel y entre todos los hombres; y te has hecho renombre, como hoy se ve.21Pues sacaste a tu pueblo Israel de la tierra de Egipto con señales y portentos, con mano fuerte y brazo extendido, y con terribles hazañas,22y les diste esta tierra, la cual juraste a sus padres que les darías: tierra que fluye leche y miel.23Y ellos entraron y la disfrutaron; pero no oyeron tu voz, ni anduvieron en tu Ley. Nada han hecho de cuanto les mandaste hacer; por tanto, has hecho venir sobre ellos todo este mal.24He aquí las torres de asedio llegan ya a la ciudad para conquistarla, y la ciudad está siendo entregada en mano de los caldeos, que combaten contra ella con la espada, el hambre y la pestilencia. Lo que anunciaste se ha comprobado, y Tú lo estás viendo.25¿Y Tú, oh Adonay YHVH, me dices: Cómprate la heredad con dinero ante testigos; mientras la ciudad cae en manos de los caldeos?26Entonces Jeremías tuvo revelación de YHVH que decía:27Yo soy YHVH, Dios de toda carne. ¿Habrá algo difícil para mí?28Por tanto, así dice YHVH: He aquí entrego esta ciudad en mano de los caldeos y en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y la tomará.29Y los caldeos que atacan esta ciudad, vendrán y le prenderán fuego y la quemarán, así como las casas en cuyas azoteas ofrecían incienso a Baal y derramaban libaciones a dioses ajenos, para provocarme a ira.30Porque los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá no han hecho sino lo malo ante mis ojos desde su juventud. Ciertamente los hijos de Israel no han hecho más que provocarme a ira con la obra de sus manos, dice YHVH.31Pues desde el día que edificaron esta ciudad hasta hoy, ha sido para mí causa de ira y furor, al extremo de tenerla que quitar de mi presencia,32por toda la maldad que cometían israelitas y judíos, irritándome todos con sus reyes y príncipes, con sus sacerdotes y profetas, los judíos y los moradores de Jerusalem.33Y me dieron la espalda y no la cara, y aunque les enseñaba madrugando y sin cesar, no escucharon ni escarmentaron.34Antes emplazaron sus abominaciones en la Casa en la cual es invocado mi Nombre, y la profanaron.35Edificaron lugares altos a Baal, en el valle de Ben-Hinom, y allí hicieron pasar por el fuego a sus hijos e hijas en honor de Moloc. Cosa que Yo no les mandé, ni me cruzó al pensamiento que pudieran haber hecho tal abominación para hacer pecar a Judá.36Pues ahora, así dice YHVH, Dios de Israel, a esta ciudad que decís que va a caer en mano del rey de Babilonia a espada, hambre y pestilencia:37Yo los reuniré de todas las tierras a las cuales los eché en mi ira, en mi enojo y en mi gran indignación, y los haré volver a este lugar, y los haré habitar seguros;38y ellos serán mi pueblo, y Yo seré su Dios,39y les daré un solo corazón y un solo camino, para que me teman todos los días, en bien suyo y de sus hijos después de ellos.40Haré con ellos un pacto eterno: no cesaré de seguirlos para hacerles bien, y pondré mi temor en su corazón para que no se aparten de mí.41Y me complaceré en ellos haciéndoles bien, y los plantaré firmemente en esta tierra, con todo mi corazón y con toda mi alma.42Así dice YHVH: De la manera que traje sobre este pueblo todo este gran mal, así traeré sobre ellos todo el bien que he prometido acerca de ellos.43Y se comprarán campos en esta tierra que decís que está desierta, sin hombres ni bestias, y entregada en manos de los caldeos.44Se comprarán campos por dinero, y se harán escritura y se sellarán ante testigos, en tierra de Benjamín y en los contornos de Jerusalem, y en las ciudades de Judá, en las ciudades de la Serranía, en las ciudades de la Sefelá y en las ciudades del Néguev, porque Yo haré regresar sus cautivos, dice YHVH.
