Salutación

1 Pablo, un apóstol de Jesús el Mesías según mandato de Dios nuestro Salvador, y de Jesús el Mesías nuestra esperanza, 2 a Timoteo, genuino hijo en la fe: Gracia, misericordia y paz de Dios Padre y de Jesús el Mesías, Señor nuestro.

Contra falsos maestros

3 Cuando pasaba a Macedonia, te rogué que permanecieras en Éfeso para que mandaras a algunos que no enseñaran diferente doctrina, 4 ni prestaran atención a fábulas y genealogías interminables, que dan pie a especulaciones más que a la realización del plan de Dios por la fe. 5 El propósito de este mandamiento es el amor nacido de un corazón puro, de buena conciencia y de una fe no fingida, 6 de las cuales cosas, habiendo perdido el camino, algunos se desviaron tras vanas palabrerías, 7 deseando ser maestros de la ley, sin entender lo que dicen ni lo que afirman tan categóricamente.

El propósito de la ley

8 Nosotros no obstante sabemos que la ley es buena, si uno la usa legítimamente, 9 sabiendo esto: Que la ley no está puesta para el justo, sino para los transgresores y desobedientes, para los impíos y pecadores, para los irreverentes y profanos, para los parricidas y matricidas, y para los homicidas, 10 para los fornicarios y los homosexuales, para los secuestradores, y los mentirosos y perjuros, y para cualquier otro que se opone a la sana doctrina, 11 conforme al evangelio de la gloria del bienaventurado Dios, el cual me fue encomendado.

Vocación de Pablo

12 Doy gracias al que me fortaleció, a Jesús el Mesías, Señor nuestro, que me tuvo por fiel, poniéndome en el ministerio; 13 habiendo sido antes blasfemo, perseguidor e insolente. Pero alcancé misericordia porque siendo ignorante, lo hice en incredulidad. 14 Pero la gracia de nuestro Señor sobreabundó con la fe y el amor que hay en Jesús el Mesías. 15 Fiel es la palabra, y digna de ser aceptada por todos: Jesús el Mesías vino al mundo para salvar a los pecadores, de los cuales yo soy el primero. 16 Pero para esto alcancé misericordia: para que Jesús el Mesías mostrara toda su longanimidad primero en mí, como ejemplo de los que habrían de creer en Él para vida eterna. 17 Por tanto, al Rey de los siglos, inmortal, invisible y único Dios, sean honor y gloria por los siglos de los siglos, amén. 18 Este mandato te encargo, oh hijo Timoteo, para que conforme a las profecías que antes se hicieron sobre ti, milites por ellas la buena batalla, 19 manteniendo la fe y la buena conciencia, la cual desechando algunos, naufragaron en cuanto a la fe; 20 de los cuales son Himeneo y Alejandro, a quienes entregué a Satanás, para que fueran enseñados a no blasfemar.

Greeting

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, 2 To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Warning Against False Teachers

3 As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, 4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship* from God that is by faith. 5 The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions. 8 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers,* liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound* doctrine, 11 in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.

Christ Jesus Came to Save Sinners

12 I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14 and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17 To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.* Amen. 18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20 among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
