1 Ein Wallfahrtslied (oder Stufenlied? vgl. Ps 120). Zu dir erhebe ich meine Augen, der du thronst im Himmel. 2 Siehe, wie die Augen der Knechte auf die Hand ihrer Herren, wie die Augen der Magd auf ihrer Gebieterin Hand: so blicken unsre Augen hin auf den HERRN, unsern Gott, bis er sich unser erbarmt. 3 Erbarme dich, HERR, erbarme dich unser! Denn gründlich sind wir satt der Verachtung; 4 satt, ja übersatt ist uns die Seele des Hohns der Leichtfertigen, der Verachtung der Stolzen.

Our Eyes Look to the Lord Our God

1 A Song of Ascents. To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens! 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he has mercy upon us. 3 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt. 4 Our soul has had more than enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.
