Der Anfang der Welt: Gott erschafft Himmel und Erde

1 Im Anfang schuf Gott die Himmel und die Erde.

Der erste Tag

2 Die Erde aber war wüst und leer, und es lag Finsternis auf der Tiefe; und der Geist Gottes schwebte über den Wassern. 3 Und Gott sprach: Es werde Licht! Und es wurde Licht. 4 Und Gott sah, dass das Licht gut war; da schied Gott das Licht von der Finsternis. 5 Und Gott nannte das Licht Tag, und die Finsternis nannte er Nacht. Und es wurde Abend, und es wurde Morgen: der erste Tag.

Der zweite Tag

6 Und Gott sprach: Es werde eine Ausdehnung inmitten der Wasser, die bilde eine Scheidung zwischen den Wassern! 7 Und Gott machte die Ausdehnung und schied das Wasser unter der Ausdehnung von dem Wasser über der Ausdehnung. Und es geschah so. 8 Und Gott nannte die Ausdehnung Himmel. Und es wurde Abend, und es wurde Morgen: der zweite Tag.

Der dritte Tag

9 Und Gott sprach: Es sammle sich das Wasser unter dem Himmel an einen Ort, damit man das Trockene sehe! Und es geschah so. 10 Und Gott nannte das Trockene Erde; aber die Sammlung der Wasser nannte er Meer. Und Gott sah, dass es gut war. 11 Und Gott sprach: Die Erde lasse Gras sprießen und Gewächs, das Samen hervorbringt, fruchttragende Bäume auf der Erde, von denen jeder seine Früchte bringt nach seiner Art, in denen ihr Same ist! Und es geschah so. 12 Und die Erde brachte Gras und Gewächs hervor, das Samen trägt nach seiner Art, und Bäume, die Früchte bringen, in denen ihr Same ist nach ihrer Art. Und Gott sah, dass es gut war. 13 Und es wurde Abend, und es wurde Morgen: der dritte Tag.

Der vierte Tag

14 Und Gott sprach: Es sollen Lichter an der Himmelsausdehnung sein, zur Unterscheidung von Tag und Nacht, die sollen als Zeichen dienen und zur Bestimmung der Zeiten und der Tage und Jahre, 15 und als Leuchten an der Himmelsausdehnung, dass sie die Erde beleuchten! Und es geschah so. 16 Und Gott machte die zwei großen Lichter, das große Licht zur Beherrschung des Tages und das kleinere Licht zur Beherrschung der Nacht; dazu die Sterne. 17 Und Gott setzte sie an die Himmelsausdehnung, damit sie die Erde beleuchten 18 und den Tag und die Nacht beherrschen und Licht und Finsternis scheiden. Und Gott sah, dass es gut war. 19 Und es wurde Abend, und es wurde Morgen: der vierte Tag.

Der fünfte Tag

20 Und Gott sprach: Das Wasser soll wimmeln von einer Fülle lebender Wesen, und es sollen Vögel dahinfliegen über die Erde an der Himmelsausdehnung! 21 Und Gott schuf die großen Meerestiere und alle lebenden Wesen, die sich regen, von denen das Wasser wimmelt, nach ihrer Art, dazu allerlei Vögel mit Flügeln nach ihrer Art. Und Gott sah, dass es gut war. 22 Und Gott segnete sie und sprach: Seid fruchtbar und mehrt euch und füllt das Wasser in den Meeren, und die Vögel sollen sich mehren auf der Erde! 23 Und es wurde Abend, und es wurde Morgen: der fünfte Tag.

Der sechste Tag

24 Und Gott sprach: Die Erde bringe lebende Wesen hervor nach ihrer Art, Vieh, Gewürm und Tiere der Erde nach ihrer Art! Und es geschah so. 25 Und Gott machte die Tiere der Erde nach ihrer Art und das Vieh nach seiner Art und alles Gewürm des Erdbodens nach seiner Art. Und Gott sah, dass es gut war.

Die Erschaffung des Menschen

26 Und Gott sprach: Lasst uns Menschen* machen nach unserem Bild, uns ähnlich; die sollen herrschen über die Fische im Meer und über die Vögel des Himmels und über das Vieh und über die ganze Erde, auch über alles Gewürm, das auf der Erde kriecht! 27 Und Gott schuf den Menschen in seinem Bild, im Bild Gottes schuf er ihn; als Mann und Frau schuf er sie. 28 Und Gott segnete sie; und Gott sprach zu ihnen: Seid fruchtbar und mehrt euch und füllt die Erde und macht sie euch untertan; und herrscht über die Fische im Meer und über die Vögel des Himmels und über alles Lebendige, das sich regt auf der Erde! 29 Und Gott sprach: Siehe, ich habe euch alles samentragende Gewächs gegeben, das auf der ganzen Erdoberfläche wächst, auch alle Bäume, an denen samentragende Früchte sind. Sie sollen euch zur Nahrung dienen; 30 aber allen Tieren der Erde und allen Vögeln des Himmels und allem, was sich regt auf der Erde, allem, in dem eine lebendige Seele ist, habe ich jedes grüne Kraut zur Nahrung gegeben! Und es geschah so. 31 Und Gott sah alles, was er gemacht hatte; und siehe, es war sehr gut. Und es wurde Abend, und es wurde Morgen: der sechste Tag.

The beginning

1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth didn’t have any shape. And it was empty. There was darkness over the surface of the waves. At that time, the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 God said, ‘Let there be light.’ And there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good. He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light ‘day’. He called the darkness ‘night’. There was evening, and there was morning. It was day one. 6 God said, ‘Let there be a huge space between the waters. Let it separate water from water.’ 7 And that’s exactly what happened. God made the huge space between the waters. He separated the water under the space from the water above it. 8 God called the huge space ‘sky’. There was evening, and there was morning. It was day two. 9 God said, ‘Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place. Let dry ground appear.’ And that’s exactly what happened. 10 God called the dry ground ‘land’. He called all the water that was gathered together ‘seas’. And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, ‘Let the land produce plants. Let them produce their own seeds. And let there be trees on the land that grow fruit with seeds in it. Let each kind of plant or tree have its own kind of seeds.’ And that’s exactly what happened. 12 So the land produced plants. Each kind of plant had its own kind of seeds. And the land produced trees that grew fruit with seeds in it. Each kind of tree had its own kind of seeds. God saw that it was good. 13 There was evening, and there was morning. It was day three. 14 God said, ‘Let there be lights in the huge space of the sky. Let them separate the day from the night. Let the lights set the times for the holy celebrations and the days and the years. 15 Let them be lights in the huge space of the sky to give light on the earth.’ And that’s exactly what happened. 16 God made two great lights. He made the larger light to rule over the day and the smaller light to rule over the night. He also made the stars. 17 God put the lights in the huge space of the sky to give light on the earth. 18 He put them there to rule over the day and the night. He put them there to separate light from darkness. God saw that it was good. 19 There was evening, and there was morning. It was day four. 20 God said, ‘Let the seas be filled with living things. Let birds fly above the earth across the huge space of the sky.’ 21 So God created the great sea creatures. He created every kind of living thing that fills the seas and moves about in them. He created every kind of bird that flies. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them. He said, ‘Have little ones so that there will be many of you. Fill the water in the seas. Let there be more and more birds on the earth.’ 23 There was evening, and there was morning. It was day five. 24 God said, ‘Let the land produce every kind of living creature. Let there be livestock, and creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals.’ And that’s exactly what happened. 25 God made every kind of wild animal. He made every kind of livestock. He made every kind of creature that moves along the ground. And God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings so that they are like us. Let them rule over the fish in the seas and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the livestock and all the wild animals. And let them rule over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ 27 So God created human beings in his own likeness. He created them to be like himself. He created them as male and female. 28 God blessed them. He said to them, ‘Have children so that there will be many of you. Fill the earth and bring it under your control. Rule over the fish in the seas and the birds in the sky. Rule over every living creature that moves along the ground.’ 29 Then God said, ‘I am giving you every plant on the face of the whole earth that produces its own seeds. I am giving you every tree that has fruit with seeds in it. All of them will be given to you for food. 30 I am giving every green plant as food for all the land animals and for all the birds in the sky. I am also giving the plants to all the creatures that move along the ground. I am giving them to every living thing that breathes.’ And that’s exactly what happened. 31 God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. There was evening, and there was morning. It was day six.
