Gottesfurcht und Gehorsam — die Voraussetzungen des Segens

1 Und dies ist das Gebot, die Satzungen und die Rechtsbestimmungen, die der HERR, euer Gott, euch zu lehren geboten hat, dass ihr sie tun sollt in dem Land, in das ihr zieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen;

2 dass du den HERRN, deinen Gott, fürchtest und alle seine Satzungen und Gebote hältst, die ich dir gebiete, du und deine Kinder und deine Kindeskinder alle Tage deines Lebens, damit du lange lebst.

3 So höre nun, Israel, und achte darauf, sie zu tun, damit es dir gut geht und ihr sehr gemehrt werdet, so wie es der HERR, der Gott deiner Väter, verheißen hat, in einem Land, in dem Milch und Honig fließt.

4 Höre Israel, der HERR ist unser Gott, der HERR allein!

5 Und du sollst den HERRN, deinen Gott, lieben mit deinem ganzen Herzen und mit deiner ganzen Seele und mit deiner ganzen Kraft.

6 Und diese Worte, die ich dir heute gebiete, sollst du auf dem Herzen tragen,

7 und du sollst sie deinen Kindern einschärfen und davon reden, wenn du in deinem Haus sitzt oder auf dem Weg gehst, wenn du dich niederlegst und wenn du aufstehst;

8 und du sollst sie zum Zeichen auf deine Hand binden, und sie sollen dir zum Erinnerungszeichen über den Augen sein;

9 und du sollst sie auf die Pfosten deines Hauses und an deine Tore schreiben.

Warnung vor Untreue und Götzendienst im Land Kanaan

10 Wenn dich nun der HERR, dein Gott, in das Land bringen wird, von dem er deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen hat, es dir zu geben, große und gute Städte, die du nicht gebaut hast,

11 und Häuser, voll von allem Guten, die du nicht gefüllt hast, und ausgehauene Zisternen, die du nicht ausgehauen hast, Weinberge und Ölbäume, die du nicht gepflanzt hast; und wenn du isst und satt geworden bist,

12 so hüte dich davor, den HERRN zu vergessen, der dich aus dem Land Ägypten, aus dem Haus der Knechtschaft, herausgeführt hat;

13 sondern du sollst den HERRN, deinen Gott, fürchten und ihm dienen und bei seinem Namen schwören.

14 Und ihr sollt nicht anderen Göttern nachfolgen, unter den Göttern der Völker, die um euch her sind

15 — denn der HERR, dein Gott, der in deiner Mitte wohnt, ist ein eifersüchtiger Gott —, damit nicht der Zorn des HERRN, deines Gottes, gegen dich entbrennt und er dich von der Erde vertilgt.

16 Ihr sollt den HERRN, euren Gott, nicht versuchen, wie ihr ihn bei Massa versucht habt!

17 Haltet genau die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, und seine Zeugnisse und seine Satzungen, die er dir geboten hat!

18 Und du sollst tun, was recht und gut ist vor den Augen des HERRN, damit es dir gut geht und du hineinkommst und das gute Land in Besitz nimmst, das der HERR deinen Vätern zugeschworen hat,

19 und alle deine Feinde vor dir her verjagst, wie der HERR es verheißen hat.

Das Zeugnis der Erretteten vor ihren Kindern

20 Wenn dich nun dein Sohn in Zukunft fragen und sagen wird: Was sind das für Zeugnisse, Satzungen und Rechtsbestimmungen, die euch der HERR, unser Gott, geboten hat?,

21 so sollst du deinem Sohn sagen: Wir waren Knechte des Pharao in Ägypten, und der HERR führte uns mit starker Hand aus Ägypten;

22 und der HERR tat vor unseren Augen große und schreckliche Zeichen und Wunder in Ägypten, an dem Pharao und an seinem ganzen Haus.

23 Uns aber führte er von dort heraus, um uns hierher zu bringen und uns das Land zu geben, das er unseren Vätern zugeschworen hat.

24 Und der HERR hat uns geboten, alle diese Satzungen zu halten, dass wir den HERRN, unseren Gott, fürchten und es uns gut geht alle Tage und er uns am Leben erhält, wie es heute der Fall ist.

25 Und es wird uns zur Gerechtigkeit dienen, wenn wir darauf achten, alle diese Gebote vor dem HERRN, unserem Gott, zu tun, wie er es uns geboten hat.

The Greatest Commandment

1 “Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules*—that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it,

2 that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long.

3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.*

5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.

7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

10 “And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build,

11 and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full,

12 then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

13 It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.

14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you—

15 for the Lord your God in your midst is a jealous God—lest the anger of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.

16 “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.

17 You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you.

18 And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers

19 by thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has promised.

20 “When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the Lord our God has commanded you?’

21 then you shall say to your son, ‘We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

22 And the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes.

23 And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers.

24 And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day.

25 And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.’
