1Das ganze Wort, das ich euch gebiete, das sollt ihr bewahren, um es zu tun; du sollst nichts zu ihm hinzufügen und nichts von ihm wegnehmen!2Wenn in deiner Mitte ein Prophet oder Träumer aufstehen wird und dir ein Zeichen oder Wunder angibt,3und das Zeichen oder Wunder trifft ein, von dem er zu dir geredet hat, und er spricht [nun]: »Lasst uns anderen Göttern nachfolgen — die du nicht gekannt hast —, und lasst uns ihnen dienen!«,4so sollst du den Worten eines solchen Propheten oder eines solchen Träumers nicht gehorchen; denn der HERR, euer Gott, prüft euch, um zu erfahren, ob ihr den HERRN, euren Gott, wirklich von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele liebt.5Dem HERRN, eurem Gott, sollt ihr nachfolgen und ihn fürchten und seine Gebote halten und seiner Stimme gehorchen und ihm dienen und ihm anhängen.6Ein solcher Prophet aber oder ein solcher Träumer soll getötet werden, weil er Abfall gelehrt hat von dem HERRN, eurem Gott, der euch aus dem Land Ägypten geführt hat und dich aus dem Haus der Knechtschaft erlöst hat; er hat dich abbringen wollen von dem Weg, auf dem zu gehen der HERR, dein Gott, dir geboten hat. So sollst du das Böse aus deiner Mitte ausrotten!
Warnung vor Verführung zum Götzendienst
7Wenn dich dein Bruder, der Sohn deiner Mutter oder dein Sohn oder deine Tochter oder deine Ehefrau oder dein Freund, der dir [so lieb] wie deine Seele ist, heimlich anstiftet und sagt: »Lasst uns hingehen und anderen Göttern dienen!« — die du nicht gekannt hast, weder du noch deine Väter,8von den Göttern der Völker, die um euch her sind, sie seien nahe bei dir oder fern von dir, von einem Ende der Erde bis zum anderen Ende der Erde —,9so sollst du nicht einwilligen und nicht auf ihn hören; du sollst ihn nicht verschonen, und du sollst kein Mitleid [mit ihm] haben, noch ihn verbergen,10sondern du sollst ihn unbedingt umbringen; deine Hand soll als erste an ihm sein, um ihn zu töten, und danach die Hand des ganzen Volkes.11Man soll ihn zu Tode steinigen; denn er hat versucht, dich abzubringen von dem HERRN, deinem Gott, der dich aus dem Land Ägypten geführt hat, aus dem Haus der Knechtschaft.12Und ganz Israel soll es hören und sich fürchten, damit niemand mehr solch eine böse Tat in deiner Mitte tut!13Wenn du von einer deiner Städte, die der HERR, dein Gott, dir geben will, um darin zu wohnen, sagen hörst:14Es sind etliche Männer, Söhne Belials*, aus deiner Mitte hervorgegangen und haben die Bürger ihrer Stadt verführt und gesagt: »Lasst uns hingehen und anderen Göttern dienen!« — die ihr nicht gekannt habt —,15so sollst du es untersuchen und nachforschen und dich genauestens erkundigen. Und siehe, wenn es die Wahrheit ist und die Sache feststeht, dass ein solcher Gräuel in deiner Mitte begangen wurde,16so sollst du die Bewohner jener Stadt unbedingt mit der Schärfe des Schwertes schlagen; an der Stadt samt allem, was darin ist, sollst du den Bann vollstrecken, auch an ihrem Vieh, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes;17und alle Beute, die darin gemacht wird, sollst du mitten auf ihrem Marktplatz sammeln und die Stadt samt aller Beute dem HERRN, deinem Gott, gänzlich mit Feuer verbrennen; und sie soll ewiglich ein Schutthaufen bleiben; sie soll niemals wieder gebaut werden!18Und es soll nicht irgendetwas von dem, was unter dem Bann ist, an deiner Hand haften, damit der HERR von der Glut seines Zornes ablässt und dir Barmherzigkeit erweist und sich über dich erbarmt und dich mehrt, wie er es deinen Vätern geschworen hat19— wenn du der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehorchst und alle seine Gebote hältst, die ich dir heute gebiete, sodass du tust, was recht ist in den Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes.

1“If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder,2and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.4You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.5But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil* from your midst.6“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or the wife you embrace* or your friend who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which neither you nor your fathers have known,7some of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other,8you shall not yield to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him.9But you shall kill him. Your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people.10You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.11And all Israel shall hear and fear and never again do any such wickedness as this among you.12“If you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God is giving you to dwell there,13that certain worthless fellows have gone out among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which you have not known,14then you shall inquire and make search and ask diligently. And behold, if it be true and certain that such an abomination has been done among you,15you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, devoting it to destruction,* all who are in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword.16You shall gather all its spoil into the midst of its open square and burn the city and all its spoil with fire, as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. It shall be a heap forever. It shall not be built again.17None of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, as he swore to your fathers,18if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, keeping all his commandments that I am commanding you today, and doing what is right in the sight of the Lord your God.
