1Après cela, Jésus se montra encore aux disciples sur les rives du lac de Tibériade. Voici de quelle manière il se montra.2Simon Pierre, Thomas, appelé Didyme, Nathanaël, qui venait de Cana en Galilée, les fils de Zébédée et deux autres disciples de Jésus se trouvaient ensemble.3Simon Pierre leur dit: «Je vais pêcher.» Ils lui dirent: «Nous allons aussi avec toi.» Ils sortirent et montèrent [aussitôt] dans une barque, mais cette nuit-là ils ne prirent rien.4Le matin venu, Jésus se trouva sur le rivage, mais les disciples ne savaient pas que c'était lui.5Il leur dit: «Les enfants, n'avez-vous rien à manger?» Ils lui répondirent: «Non.»6Il leur dit: «Jetez le filet du côté droit de la barque et vous trouverez.» Ils le jetèrent donc et ils ne parvinrent plus à le retirer, tant il y avait de poissons.7Alors le disciple que Jésus aimait dit à Pierre: «C'est le Seigneur!» Dès qu'il eut entendu que c'était le Seigneur, Simon Pierre remit son vêtement et sa ceinture, car il s'était déshabillé, et se jeta dans le lac.8Les autres disciples vinrent avec la barque en tirant le filet plein de poissons, car ils n'étaient pas loin de la rive, à une centaine de mètres.9Lorsqu'ils furent descendus à terre, ils virent là un feu de braises avec du poisson dessus et du pain.10Jésus leur dit: «Apportez quelques-uns des poissons que vous venez de prendre.»11Simon Pierre monta dans la barque et tira le filet plein de 153 gros poissons à terre; malgré leur grand nombre, le filet ne se déchira pas.12Jésus leur dit: «Venez manger!» Aucun des disciples n'osait lui demander: «Qui es-tu?» car ils savaient que c'était le Seigneur.13Jésus s'approcha, prit le pain et leur en donna; il fit de même avec le poisson.14C'était déjà la troisième fois que Jésus se montrait à ses disciples depuis qu'il était ressuscité.15Lorsqu'ils eurent mangé, Jésus dit à Simon Pierre: «Simon, fils de Jonas, m'aimes-tu plus que ceux-ci?» Il lui répondit: «Oui, Seigneur, tu sais que j'ai de l'amour pour toi.» Jésus lui dit: «Nourris mes agneaux.»16Il lui dit une deuxième fois: «Simon, fils de Jonas, m'aimes-tu?» Pierre lui répondit: «Oui, Seigneur, tu sais que j'ai de l'amour pour toi.» Jésus lui dit: «Prends soin de mes brebis.»17Il lui dit, la troisième fois: «Simon, fils de Jonas, as-tu de l'amour pour moi?» Pierre fut attristé de ce qu'il lui avait dit, la troisième fois: «As-tu de l'amour pour moi?» et il lui répondit: «Seigneur, tu sais tout, tu sais que j'ai de l'amour pour toi.» Jésus lui dit: «Nourris mes brebis.18En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, quand tu étais plus jeune, tu mettais toi-même ta ceinture et tu allais où tu voulais; mais quand tu seras vieux, tu tendras les mains et c'est un autre qui attachera ta ceinture et te conduira où tu ne voudras pas.»19Il dit cela pour indiquer par quelle mort Pierre révélerait la gloire de Dieu. Puis il lui dit: «Suis-moi.»20Pierre se retourna et vit venir derrière eux le disciple que Jésus aimait, celui qui, pendant le souper, s'était penché vers Jésus et avait dit: «Seigneur, qui est celui qui va te trahir?»21En le voyant, Pierre dit à Jésus: «Et lui, Seigneur, que lui arrivera-t-il?»22Jésus lui dit: «Si je veux qu'il vive jusqu'à ce que je revienne, en quoi cela te concerne-t-il? Toi, suis-moi.»23Là-dessus, le bruit courut parmi les frères* que ce disciple ne mourrait pas. Cependant, Jésus n'avait pas dit à Pierre qu'il ne mourrait pas, mais: «Si je veux qu'il vive jusqu'à ce que je revienne, en quoi cela te concerne-t-il?»24C'est ce disciple qui rend témoignage de ces choses et qui les a écrites, et nous savons que son témoignage est vrai.25Jésus a fait encore beaucoup d'autres choses. Si on les écrivait en détail, je ne pense pas que le monde entier pourrait contenir les livres qu'on écrirait.

Jesus and the miraculous catch of fish
1Afterwards Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.* It happened this way:2Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus*), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together.3‘I’m going out to fish,’ Simon Peter told them, and they said, ‘We’ll go with you.’ So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.4Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus.5He called out to them, ‘Friends, haven’t you any fish?’ ‘No,’ they answered.6He said, ‘Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.’ When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.7Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord!’ As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, ‘It is the Lord,’ he wrapped his outer garment round him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.8The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred metres.9When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.10Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish you have just caught.’11So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn.12Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ None of the disciples dared ask him, ‘Who are you?’ They knew it was the Lord.13Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.14This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.
Jesus reinstates Peter
15When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ he said, ‘you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my lambs.’16Again Jesus said, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ He answered, ‘Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Take care of my sheep.’17The third time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ He said, ‘Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my sheep.18Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.’19Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, ‘Follow me!’20Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, ‘Lord, who is going to betray you?’)21When Peter saw him, he asked, ‘Lord, what about him?’22Jesus answered, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.’23Because of this, the rumour spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?’24This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
