Abrahams Feigheit bringt Sara erneut in Schwierigkeiten
1Abraham verließ Mamre und zog in den Süden des Landes*. Zunächst lebte er zwischen Kadesch und Schur, dann wohnte er ´eine Zeitlang` als Gast im Gebiet von Gerar.2Dort gab er seine Frau Sara als seine Schwester aus. Abimelech*, der König von Gerar, schickte Boten zu Abraham und ließ Sara in sein Haus holen.3Doch Gott erschien ihm nachts in einem Traum und sagte zu ihm: »Du musst sterben, denn die Frau, die du genommen hast, ist mit einem anderen Mann verheiratet.«4Abimelech hatte Sara jedoch noch nicht angerührt, darum antwortete er: »O Herr, willst du wirklich unschuldige Menschen umbringen?5Ihr Mann hat doch selbst zu mir gesagt: ›Sie ist meine Schwester.‹ Und auch sie hat behauptet: ›Er ist mein Bruder.‹ Ich habe in gutem Glauben gehandelt, ich bin unschuldig.*«6»Das weiß ich«, sagte Gott im Traum zu ihm, »deshalb habe ich selbst dich davon abgehalten, mein Gebot zu übertreten, und nicht zugelassen, dass du sie anrührst.7Und nun gib die Frau ihrem Ehemann zurück! Er ist ein Prophet! Er wird für dich beten, damit du am Leben bleibst. Wenn du sie aber nicht zurückgibst, wirst du sterben, und alle deine Angehörigen mit dir.«8Früh am nächsten Morgen rief Abimelech seine Berater zusammen und schilderte ihnen, was geschehen war. Alle bekamen große Angst.9Abimelech rief Abraham zu sich und stellt ihn zur Rede: »Wie konntest du uns das antun? Ich hatte dir doch nie etwas Böses getan. Jetzt lastet deinetwegen eine große Schuld auf mir und meinem Königreich! Es ist unerhört, wie du dich mir gegenüber verhalten hast!10Was hast du* dir eigentlich dabei gedacht?«11Abraham antwortete: »Ich dachte: ›Die Menschen in dieser Stadt haben bestimmt keine Ehrfurcht vor Gott und werden mich wegen meiner Frau umbringen.‹12Außerdem ist sie wirklich meine Schwester. Wir haben beide denselben Vater aber nicht dieselbe Mutter. So konnte sie meine Frau werden.13Als Gott mir befahl, mein Elternhaus zu verlassen und in die Fremde zu ziehen, bat ich sie: ›Sag mir zuliebe überall, wo wir hinkommen, dass ich dein Bruder bin.‹«14Da gab Abimelech Abraham seine Frau zurück und schenkte ihm dazu noch Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder sowie Knechte und Mägde.15»Mein Land steht dir offen – du kannst wohnen, wo es dir gefällt!«, bot er ihm an.16Zu Sara sagte er: »Ich gebe deinem Bruder tausend Silberstücke, damit eure Leute die ganze Angelegenheit schnell vergessen und dir nichts Schlechtes mehr nachsagen.«*17Dann betete Abraham für Abimelech, und Gott ließ Abimelech, seine Frau und seine Nebenfrauen* wieder gesund werden, sodass sie wieder Kinder bekommen konnten.18Der HERR hatte nämlich alle Frauen im Haushalt von Abimelech unfruchtbar werden lassen, weil der König Abrahams Frau Sara zu sich geholt hatte.

1And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.2And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.3But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man' wife.4But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?5Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.6And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.7Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.8Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.9Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.10And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?11And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife' sake.12And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.13And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father' house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.14And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.15And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.16And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other : thus she was reproved.17So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children .18For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham' wife.
