1Ein Psalm Asafs. Gott*, der HERR, er spricht; sein Ruf ergeht an alle, die auf der Erde wohnen, vom Sonnenaufgang bis zum Sonnenuntergang.2Vom Zion aus, dem Berg von vollendeter Schönheit, erscheint er in herrlichem Glanz.3Unser Gott kommt, und er wird nicht schweigen! Verzehrendes Feuer geht ihm voran, gewaltige Stürme brausen rings um ihn.4Himmel und Erde ruft er ´als Zeugen`, wenn er über seinem Volk zu Gericht sitzen wird.5´Er sagt`: »Versammelt vor mir alle, die mir treu ergeben sind, alle, die mir ihre Opfer dargebracht und dabei den Bund mit mir geschlossen haben.«6Der ganze Himmel verkündet, dass Gott gerecht ist, er selbst hat den Platz des Richters eingenommen*. //*7»So höre doch, mein Volk, jetzt rede ich mit dir! Israel, ich muss dich ermahnen! Ich bin Gott, ja, dein Gott bin ich.8Nicht wegen deiner Schlachtopfer klage ich dich an, auch deine Brandopfer bringst du mir ja regelmäßig dar*.9Ich brauche keine Stiere aus deinem Stall und keine Böcke von deinen Weiden.10Denn alle Tiere in Wald und Flur gehören mir ohnehin, auch das Vieh auf tausenden von Hügeln*.11Ich kenne jeden Vogel in den Bergen, ´alles`, was sich in Feld und Wiese regt, ist mir vertraut.12Würde ich je Hunger verspüren, ich bräuchte es dir nicht zu sagen, denn mir gehört der ganze Erdkreis mit all seiner Fülle.13Esse ich etwa Fleisch von Stieren? Trinke ich denn Blut von Böcken?14Zeige Gott deinen Dank – das ist das Opfer, das ihm gefällt!* Erfülle die Gelübde, die du vor ihm, dem Höchsten, abgelegt hast!15Rufe zu mir in Tagen der Not. Dann werde ich dich retten, und du wirst mich preisen.«16Zu dem aber, der ihn missachtet, spricht Gott: »Was sagst du überhaupt meine Gebote auf? Warum nimmst du die Weisungen meines Bundes immer wieder in den Mund?17Gleichzeitig verabscheust du selbst jede Zurechtweisung, ja, meine Worte wirfst du achtlos hinter dich!18Wenn du einen Dieb siehst, freundest du dich mit ihm an, und mit Ehebrechern verbündest du dich.19Aus deinem Mund sprudelt Bosheit hervor, und mit deiner Zunge knüpfst du ein Lügennetz.20Wenn du mit anderen zusammensitzt, redest du schlecht über deinen Nächsten, sogar deinen leiblichen Bruder bringst du in Verruf.21Das alles hast du getan, und bisher habe ich dazu geschwiegen. Da dachtest du, ich sei genau wie du. Aber ich werde dich zur Rede stellen und dir dein Verhalten vor Augen führen.22Ihr, die ihr Gott vergesst, nehmt euch diese Warnung doch zu Herzen! Denn sonst werde ich euch zerreißen ´wie ein Löwe`, und dann kann euch niemand mehr helfen!23Wer mir seinen Dank zeigt, der bringt mir ein Opfer dar, das mich ehrt.* So ebnet er den Weg, auf dem ich ihm Gottes Rettung zeige.*«

A psalm of Asaph.
1The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks. He calls out to the earth from the sunrise in the east to the sunset in the west.2From Zion, perfect and beautiful, God’s glory shines out.3Our God comes, and he won’t be silent. A burning fire goes ahead of him. A terrible storm is all around him.4He calls out to heaven and earth to be his witnesses. Then he judges his people.5He says, ‘Gather this holy people around me. They made a covenant with me by offering a sacrifice.’6The heavens announce that what God decides is right. That’s because he is a God of justice.7God says, ‘Listen, my people, and I will speak. I will be a witness against you, Israel. I am God, your God.8I don’t bring charges against you because of your sacrifices. I don’t bring charges because of the burnt offerings you always bring me.9I don’t need a bull from your barn. I don’t need goats from your pens.10Every animal in the forest already belongs to me. And so do the cattle on a thousand hills.11I own every bird in the mountains. The insects in the fields belong to me.12If I were hungry, I wouldn’t tell you. The world belongs to me. And so does everything in it.13Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?14Bring me thank-offerings, because I am your God. Carry out the promises you made to me, because I am the Most High God.15Call out to me when trouble comes. I will save you. And you will honour me.’16But here is what God says to a sinful person. ‘What right do you have to speak the words of my laws? How dare you speak the words of my covenant!17You hate my teaching. You turn your back on what I say.18When you see a thief, you join him. You make friends with those who commit adultery.19You use your mouth to speak evil. You use your tongue to spread lies.20You are a witness against your brother. You always tell lies about your own mother’s son.21When you did these things, I kept silent. So you thought I was just like you. But now I’m going to bring you to court. I will bring charges against you.22‘You who forget God, think about this. If you don’t, I will tear you to pieces. No one will be able to save you.23People who sacrifice thank-offerings to me honour me. To those who are without blame I will show my power to save.’
