1 La respuesta amable calma el enojo, pero la respuesta grosera lo hace encenderse más. 2 De la lengua de los sabios brota conocimiento; de la boca de los necios necedades. 3 Los ojos del SEÑOR miran por todas partes, y vigilan a los buenos y a los malos. 4 La lengua que consuela es un árbol de vida, pero la lengua engañosa lastima el espíritu. 5 El necio menosprecia la corrección de su padre; el que la toma en cuenta demuestra inteligencia. 6 En la casa del justo hay gran abundancia, pero en las ganancias del malvado, grandes problemas. 7 Los labios del sabio esparcen sabiduría; el corazón del necio no la conoce. 8 El SEÑOR detesta las ofrendas de los malvados, pero se deleita en las oraciones del justo. 9 El SEÑOR aborrece el camino de los malvados, pero ama a quienes procuran la justicia. 10 El que abandona el camino de la justicia será castigado; el que aborrece la corrección morirá. 11 Ante el SEÑOR están las profundidades de la muerte y del sepulcro, ¡con mayor razón el corazón de los hombres! 12 El burlón no ama a quien lo corrige, ni busca la compañía de los sabios. 13 El corazón feliz, alegra la cara; el corazón lastimado, entristece el espíritu. 14 El corazón sabio busca el conocimiento, pero la boca de los necios se alimenta de necedades. 15 Para el afligido, todos los días traen problemas; para el de corazón alegre, todos los días son de fiesta. 16 Es mejor tener poco y honrar al SEÑOR, que tener muchos tesoros y grandes angustias. 17 Es mejor comer verduras sazonadas con amor, que banquete de carne sazonado con odio. 18 El que se enoja fácilmente provoca peleas; el que controla su enojo las apacigua. 19 El camino del perezoso está lleno de espinas; pero la senda del justo es como una calzada. 20 El hijo sabio alegra a su padre; el hijo necio menosprecia a su madre. 21 El necio se alegra en su falta de juicio; el inteligente corrige sus propios pasos. 22 La falta de consejo frustra los planes; la abundancia de consejo los prospera. 23 Qué grato es dar la respuesta adecuada, y todavía más grato cuando es oportuna. 24 El camino de los sabios sube hacia la vida, y los libra de bajar al sepulcro. 25 El SEÑOR destruye la casa del orgulloso, pero protege la propiedad de la viuda. 26 El SEÑOR detesta el pensamiento de los malvados, pero le agradan las palabras limpias. 27 El ambicioso trae dolor a toda su familia, pero el que aborrece el soborno vivirá. 28 El justo piensa antes de hablar, pero de la boca del malvado brota maldad. 29 El SEÑOR está lejos de los malos, pero escucha las oraciones de los justos. 30 La mirada que anima trae alegría al corazón, y las buenas noticias dan nuevas fuerzas. 31 El que escucha la corrección que da la vida, habitará entre los sabios. 32 El que rechaza la corrección se daña él mismo; el que atiende la reprensión gana entendimiento. 33 El honrar al SEÑOR enseña sabiduría; primero viene la humildad y luego la honra.

1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. 3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. 4 A gentle* tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. 5 A fool despises his father’s instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is prudent. 6 In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked. 7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.* 8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him. 9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but he loves him who pursues righteousness. 10 There is severe discipline for him who forsakes the way; whoever hates reproof will die. 11 Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord; how much more the hearts of the children of man! 12 A scoffer does not like to be reproved; he will not go to the wise. 13 A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed. 14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly. 15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast. 16 Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it. 17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it. 18 A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention. 19 The way of a sluggard is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is a level highway. 20 A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother. 21 Folly is a joy to him who lacks sense, but a man of understanding walks straight ahead. 22 Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. 23 To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is! 24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent, that he may turn away from Sheol beneath. 25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud but maintains the widow’s boundaries. 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, but gracious words are pure. 27 Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live. 28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things. 29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous. 30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes* the bones. 31 The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise. 32 Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence. 33 The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
