1Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,2Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:3If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;4Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.5He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.6But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman' hand.7So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.8When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man , thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.9Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.10Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?11Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?12Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.13When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.14Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;15If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.16None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.17Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.18When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.19But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.20Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.21And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month , in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.22Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.23Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,24Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.25Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?26Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?27Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.28For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.29Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.30Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.31And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.32And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.33And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

1Und das Wort des HERRN erging an mich folgendermaßen:2Menschensohn, rede zu den Kindern deines Volkes und sage ihnen: Wenn ich das Schwert über ein Land bringe, so nimmt das Volk des Landes einen Mann aus seiner Mitte und bestimmt ihn zu seinem Wächter.3Wenn nun dieser das Schwert über sein Land kommen sieht, so stößt er ins Schopharhorn und warnt das Volk.4Wenn dann jemand den Schall des Schopharhornes hört und sich nicht warnen lassen will, und das Schwert kommt und rafft ihn weg, so kommt sein Blut auf seinen Kopf;5denn da er den Schall des Schopharhornes hörte, sich aber nicht warnen ließ, so sei sein Blut auf ihm! Hätte er sich warnen lassen, so hätte er seine Seele gerettet.6Wenn aber der Wächter das Schwert kommen sieht und nicht ins Schopharhorn stößt und das Volk nicht gewarnt wird und das Schwert kommt und einen von ihnen wegrafft, so wird derjenige zwar um seiner Sünde willen weggerafft, aber sein Blut werde ich von der Hand des Wächters fordern.7Nun habe ich dich, o Menschensohn, für das Haus Israel zum Wächter bestellt, damit du das Wort aus meinem Mund hören und sie von mir aus warnen sollst.8Wenn ich zu dem Gottlosen sage: »Du Gottloser, du musst gewisslich sterben!« und du sagst es ihm nicht, um den Gottlosen vor seinem Weg zu warnen, so wird jener, der Gottlose, um seiner Sünde willen sterben; aber sein Blut will ich von deiner Hand fordern.9Wenn du aber den Gottlosen vor seinem Weg warnst, damit er davon umkehrt, und er von seinem Weg nicht umkehren will, so wird er um seiner Sünde willen sterben; du aber hast deine Seele gerettet.10Du nun, Menschensohn, sprich zu dem Haus Israel: So redet ihr und sagt: »Unsere Übertretungen und unsere Sünden liegen auf uns, dass wir darunter verschmachten; wie können wir leben?«11Sprich zu ihnen: So wahr ich lebe, spricht GOTT, der Herr: Ich habe kein Gefallen am Tod des Gottlosen, sondern daran, dass der Gottlose umkehre von seinem Weg und lebe! Kehrt um, kehrt um von euren bösen Wegen! Warum wollt ihr sterben, o Haus Israel?12Und du, Menschensohn, sprich zu den Kindern deines Volkes: Den Gerechten wird seine Gerechtigkeit nicht retten an dem Tag, da er sich versündigt; und den Gottlosen wird seine Gottlosigkeit nicht zu Fall bringen an dem Tag, da er von seiner Gottlosigkeit umkehrt, so wenig, wie den Gerechten seine Gerechtigkeit am Leben erhalten wird an dem Tag, da er sündigt.13Wenn ich von dem Gerechten sage: »Er soll gewisslich leben!«, und er verlässt sich auf seine Gerechtigkeit und tut Unrecht, so soll nicht mehr an all seine gerechten Taten gedacht werden; sondern um seines Unrechts willen, das er getan hat, soll er sterben.14Und wenn ich zu dem Gottlosen sage: »Du sollst gewisslich sterben!«, und er kehrt von seiner Sünde um und übt Recht und Gerechtigkeit,15sodass der Gottlose das Pfand wiedergibt, den Raub zurückerstattet und in den Satzungen des Lebens wandelt, ohne Unrecht zu tun, so soll er gewisslich leben und nicht sterben.16Auch soll bei ihm nicht mehr an alle seine Sünden gedacht werden, die er getan hat; er hat Recht und Gerechtigkeit geübt, er soll gewisslich leben!17Dennoch sagen die Kinder deines Volkes: »Der Weg des Herrn ist nicht richtig!« — dabei ist es doch ihr Weg, der nicht richtig ist!18Wenn der Gerechte sich von seiner Gerechtigkeit abkehrt und Unrecht tut, so muss er deshalb sterben;19wenn aber der Gottlose sich von seiner Gottlosigkeit abkehrt und Recht und Gerechtigkeit übt, so soll er deswegen leben!20Da ihr aber sagt: »Der Weg des Herrn ist nicht richtig!«, so will ich jeden von euch nach seinen Wegen richten, Haus Israel!
Hesekiel erhält die Nachricht von der Einnahme Jerusalems
21Und es geschah im zwölften Jahr, am fünften Tag des zehnten Monats unserer Gefangenschaft, da kam ein Entflohener von Jerusalem zu mir und sprach: Die Stadt ist geschlagen!22Aber die Hand des HERRN war auf mich gekommen an dem Abend, ehe der Entflohene zu mir kam, und er hatte mir den Mund aufgetan, als jener am Morgen zu mir kam; und der Mund wurde mir aufgetan, sodass ich nicht mehr stumm war.23Da erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:24Menschensohn, die Bewohner dieser Ruinen im Land Israel sagen: »Abraham war nur ein einzelner Mann und hat das Land zum Besitz erhalten; wir aber sind viele, und uns ist das Land zum Besitz gegeben!«25Darum sprich zu ihnen: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: Ihr habt [das Fleisch] mitsamt dem Blut gegessen; ihr habt eure Augen zu euren Götzen erhoben und habt Blut vergossen; und ihr solltet dennoch das Land besitzen?26Ihr verlasst euch auf euer Schwert; ihr [Frauen] verübt Gräuel und ihr [Männer] verunreinigt einer die Frau des anderen; und ihr solltet dennoch das Land besitzen?27So sollst du zu ihnen reden: So spricht GOTT, der Herr: So wahr ich lebe, alle die, welche in diesen Ruinen wohnen, sollen durchs Schwert fallen; und wer auf dem freien Feld ist, den will ich den wilden Tieren zum Fraß preisgeben; die aber in den Festungen und Höhlen sind, sollen an der Pest sterben!28Und ich will das Land zur Einöde machen und es verwüsten; und ihre Kraft, auf die sie stolz sind, soll ein Ende haben; und die Berge Israels sollen so schrecklich wüst daliegen, dass niemand darüber hinwandern wird.29Dann werden sie erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin, wenn ich das Land zur Einöde machen und es verwüsten werde wegen aller ihrer Gräuel, die sie verübt haben.30Und du, Menschensohn, die Kinder deines Volkes unterreden sich deinetwegen an den Mauern und unter den Türen der Häuser und sagen zueinander, jeder zu seinem Bruder: »Kommt doch und hört, was für ein Wort vom HERRN ausgeht!«31Und sie werden zu dir kommen, wie das Volk zusammenkommt, und werden als mein Volk vor dir sitzen und deine Worte hören, aber nicht danach handeln. Denn wenn sie auch mit dem Mund ihre Liebe bekunden, so läuft ihr Herz doch hinter dem Gewinn her.32Und siehe, du bist für sie wie ein liebliches Lied, wie einer, der eine schöne Stimme hat und gut die Saiten spielen kann; sie werden deine Worte hören, aber sie nicht tun.33Wenn es aber kommt — und siehe, es kommt! —, so werden sie erkennen, dass ein Prophet in ihrer Mitte gewesen ist.
