1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. 5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. 6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. 16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God. 17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. 18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. 20 When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper. 21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. 22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. 23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. 33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. 34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

2 Ich kann euch nur loben, weil ihr immer an mich denkt und euch in allem nach dem richtet, was ich euch weitergegeben habe. 3 Ich will aber, dass ihr auch Folgendes wisst: Jeder Mann untersteht Christus, die Frau dem Mann, und Christus untersteht Gott. 4 Ein Mann entehrt Christus*, wenn er im Gottesdienst öffentlich betet oder im Auftrag Gottes prophetisch redet und dabei eine Kopfbedeckung trägt. 5 Trägt dagegen eine Frau keine Kopfbedeckung, wenn sie im Gottesdienst betet oder im Auftrag Gottes prophetisch redet, dann entehrt sie ihren Ehemann*. Das wäre genauso, als wenn sie kahl geschoren herumliefe.* 6 Will eine Frau ihren Kopf nicht bedecken, kann sie sich auch gleich die Haare abschneiden lassen. Aber weil es jede Frau entehrt, wenn ihr das Haar kurz geschnitten oder der Kopf kahl geschoren wurde, soll sie ihren Kopf bedecken. 7 Ein Mann aber soll im Gottesdienst keine Kopfbedeckung tragen, denn er ist nach Gottes Bild geschaffen und spiegelt dessen Herrlichkeit wider. In der Frau dagegen spiegelt sich die Herrlichkeit des Mannes. 8 Denn Adam, der erste Mensch, wurde nicht aus einer Frau erschaffen, aber Eva, die erste Frau, wurde aus dem Mann erschaffen. 9 Der Mann wurde auch nicht für die Frau geschaffen, sondern die Frau für den Mann. 10 Deshalb soll sie im Gottesdienst eine Kopfbedeckung tragen als Zeichen dafür, dass sie dem Mann untersteht*. Auch wegen der Engel, die über Gottes Ordnungen wachen, sollte sie dies tun.* 11 Vor dem Herrn sind jedoch Mann und Frau gleichermaßen aufeinander angewiesen und füreinander da. 12 Denn obwohl Eva aus Adam geschaffen wurde, so werden doch alle Männer von Frauen geboren. Beide aber, Mann und Frau, sind Geschöpfe Gottes. 13 Urteilt doch selbst: Gehört es sich für eine Frau, ohne Kopfbedeckung öffentlich zu beten? 14 Lehrt euch nicht schon die Natur, dass lange Haare für den Mann eine Schande sind, 15 aber eine Ehre für die Frau? Das lange Haar ist ihr als Schleier gegeben. 16 Doch wer es darüber zum Streit kommen lassen will, dem möchte ich nur sagen: Wir kennen die Sitte nicht, dass Frauen ohne Kopfbedeckung am Gottesdienst teilnehmen, und die anderen Gemeinden Gottes auch nicht.

17 Was ich euch jetzt noch zu sagen habe, ist kein Lob. Wie ihr eure Gottesdienste feiert, kann ich wirklich nicht gutheißen. Sie scheinen eurer Gemeinde mehr zu schaden als zu nützen. 18 Zunächst höre ich da von Uneinigkeit bei euren Versammlungen. Etwas Wahres muss wohl daran sein. 19 Allerdings muss es auch zu Spaltungen unter euch kommen, denn nur so wird sichtbar, wer sich im Glauben bewährt hat. 20 Was ihr in euren Gottesdiensten feiert, ist gar nicht das Mahl des Herrn. 21 Denn anstatt miteinander zu teilen, isst und trinkt jeder das, was er selbst mitgebracht hat.* So bleibt der eine hungrig und durstig, während der andere sich betrinkt. 22 Könnt ihr denn nicht zu Hause essen und trinken? Oder bedeutet euch Gottes Gemeinde so wenig, dass ihr diejenigen geringschätzig behandelt, die arm sind und kein Essen mitbringen konnten? Was soll ich dazu sagen? Soll ich euch dafür auch noch loben? In diesem Punkt kann ich das ganz gewiss nicht tun! 23 Denn Folgendes habe ich vom Herrn empfangen und euch überliefert: In der Nacht, in der unser Herr Jesus verraten wurde, nahm er ein Brot, 24 dankte Gott dafür, brach es in Stücke und sprach: »Das ist mein Leib, der für euch hingegeben wird. Feiert dieses Mahl immer wieder und denkt daran, was ich für euch getan habe, sooft ihr dieses Brot esst!« 25 Ebenso nahm er nach dem Essen den Kelch mit Wein, reichte ihn seinen Jüngern und sprach: »Dieser Kelch ist der neue Bund zwischen Gott und euch, der durch mein Blut besiegelt wird. Sooft ihr aus diesem Kelch trinkt, denkt an mich und an das, was ich für euch getan habe!« 26 Denn jedes Mal, wenn ihr dieses Brot esst und aus diesem Kelch trinkt, verkündet ihr, was der Herr durch seinen Tod für uns getan hat, bis er kommt. 27 Darum wird jeder, der gedankenlos und leichtfertig* von diesem Brot isst und aus dem Kelch des Herrn trinkt, schuldig am Leib und am Blut unseres Herrn. 28 Jeder soll sich also prüfen und erst dann von dem Brot essen und aus dem Kelch trinken. 29 Denn wer davon nimmt, ohne zu bedenken, dass es hier um den Leib von Christus geht,* der liefert sich selbst dem Gericht Gottes aus. 30 Deshalb sind so viele von euch schwach und krank, und nicht wenige sind schon gestorben. 31 Würden wir uns selbst prüfen, dann müsste Gott uns nicht auf diese Weise bestrafen. 32 Straft uns aber der Herr, so will er uns erziehen, damit wir nicht zusammen mit der gottlosen Welt verurteilt werden. 33 Darum, meine Brüder und Schwestern, nehmt aufeinander Rücksicht und teilt das Essen miteinander*, wenn ihr zusammen das Abendmahl feiert. 34 Wer hungrig ist, soll vorher zu Hause etwas essen; sonst bringt euch dieses Mahl nicht Gottes Segen, sondern seine Strafe. Alles andere werde ich regeln, wenn ich bei euch bin.
