The Plot to Kill Jesus

1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. 2 And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people.

Judas to Betray Jesus

3 Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. 4 He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.

The Passover with the Disciples

7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 So Jesus* sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” 9 They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” 10 He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters 11 and tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.” 13 And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

Institution of the Lord’s Supper

14 And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it* until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. 18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.* 21 But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. 22 For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” 23 And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.

Who Is the Greatest?

24 A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27 For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves. 28 “You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, 29 and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus Foretells Peter’s Denial

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you,* that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” 33 Peter* said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” 34 Jesus* said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”

Scripture Must Be Fulfilled in Jesus

35 And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” 36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. 37 For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.” 38 And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

39 And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.* 45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

47 While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50 And one of them struck the servant* of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”

Peter Denies Jesus

54 Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance. 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.

Jesus Is Mocked

63 Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. 64 They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” 65 And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him.

Jesus Before the Council

66 When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, 67 “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” 70 So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” 71 Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”

آخرين روزهای عيسی در اين دنيا

1 عيد پِسَح نزديک میشد، عيدی كه در آن فقط نان فطير میخوردند. 2 در طی روزهای عيد، كاهنان اعظم و ساير علمای دين در پی فرصت بودند تا عيسی را بیسر و صدا بگيرند و به قتل برسانند، اما از شورش مردم وحشت داشتند. 3 در همين زمان، شيطان وارد وجود يهودا اسخريوطی يكی از دوازده شاگرد عيسی شد. 4 پس او نزد كاهنان اعظم و فرماندهان محافظين خانهٔ خدا رفت تا با ايشان گفتگو كند كه چگونه عيسی را به دستشان تسليم نمايد. 5 ايشان نيز از اين امر بسيار شاد شدند و قول دادند كه پاداش خوبی به او دهند. 6 بنابراين يهودا به دنبال فرصتی میگشت تا به دور از چشم مردم، عيسی را به آنان تسليم كند.

آخرين شام عيسی با شاگردان

7 روز عيد پِسَح فرا رسيد. در اين روز، میبايست بره قربانی را ذبح كرده، با نان فطير بخورند. 8 پس عيسی، دو نفر از شاگردان يعنی پطرس و يوحنا را به شهر فرستاد تا جايی پيدا كنند و شام عيد را در آنجا حاضر نمايند. 9 ايشان از عيسی پرسيدند: «ميل داری شام را كجا آماده كنيم؟» 10 فرمود: «به محض اينكه وارد اورشليم شديد، به مردی برخواهيد خورد كه كوزه آبی حمل میكند. وارد هر خانهای شد، به دنبالش برويد، 11 و به صاحب خانه بگوييد: استاد ما گفته است كه اتاقی را كه بايد شام عيد را در آنجا صرف كنيم، به ما نشان دهی. 12 او نيز شما را به اتاق بزرگی در طبقه دوم كه قبلاً برای ما حاضر شده، خواهد برد. همانجا شام را حاضر كنيد.» 13 آن دو شاگرد به شهر رفتند. هر چه عيسی گفته بود، رخ داد. پس شام را حاضر كردند. 14 هنگامی كه وقت شام فرا رسيد، عيسی با دوازده رسول بر سر سفره نشست. 15 آنگاه به ايشان فرمود: «با اشتياق زياد، در انتظار چنين لحظهای بودم، تا پيش از آغاز رنجها و زحماتم، اين شام پِسَح را با شما بخورم. 16 زيرا به شما میگويم كه ديگر از اين شام نخواهم خورد تا آن زمان كه در ملكوت خدا، مفهوم واقعی آن جامه تحقق بپوشد.» 17 آنگاه پيالهای به دست گرفت و شكر كرد و آن را به شاگردان داد و فرمود: «بگيريد و ميان خود تقسيم كنيد، 18 زيرا تا زمان برقراری ملكوت خدا، ديگر از اين محصول انگور نخواهم نوشيد.» 19 سپس نان را برداشت و خدا را شكر نمود و آن را پاره كرد و به ايشان داد و گفت: «اين بدن من است كه در راه شما فدا میشود. اين را به ياد من بجا آريد.» 20 به همين ترتيب، پس از شام، پيالهای ديگر به ايشان داد و گفت: «اين پياله، نشانهٔ پيمان تازهٔ خداست كه با خون من مهر میشود، خونی كه برای نجات شما ريخته میشود. 21 اما اينجا، سر همين سفره، كسی نشسته است كه خود را دوست ما میداند، ولی او همان كسی است كه به من خيانت میكند. 22 درست است كه من بايد مطابق نقشهٔ خدا كشته شوم، اما وای به حال كسی كه مرا به مرگ تسليم كند!» 23 شاگردان حيران ماندند و از يكديگر میپرسيدند كه كدام يک از ايشان دست به چنين كاری خواهد زد! 24 در ضمن بين شاگردان اين بحث درگرفت كه كدام يک از ايشان بزرگتر است. 25 عيسی به ايشان گفت: «در اين دنيا، پادشاهان و بزرگان به زير دستانشان دستور میدهند و آنها هم چارهای جز اطاعت ندارند. 26 اما در ميان شما كسی از همه بزرگتر است كه بيشتر از همه به ديگران خدمت كند. 27 در اين دنيا، ارباب بر سر سفره مینشيند و نوكرانش به او خدمت میكنند. اما اينجا بين ما اينطور نيست، چون من خدمتگزار شما هستم. 28 و شما كسانی هستيد كه در سختیهای من، نسبت به من وفادار بودهايد؛ 29 از این رو، همانگونه كه پدرم به من اجازه داده است تا فرمانروايی كنم، من نيز به شما اجازه میدهم كه در سلطنت من، بر سر سفرهٔ من بنشينيد و بخوريد و بنوشيد، و بر تختها نشسته، بر دوازده قبيلهٔ اسرائيل فرمانروايی كنيد.

عيسی انکار پطرس را پيشگويی میکند

31 «ای شمعون، ای شمعون، شيطان میخواست همگی شما را بيازمايد و همانند گندم، غربال كند؛ 32 اما من برای تو دعا كردم تا ايمانت از بين نرود. پس وقتی توبه كردی و به سوی من بازگشتی، ايمان برادرانت را تقويت و استوار كن!» 33 شمعون گفت: «خداوندا، من حاضرم با تو به زندان بروم، حتی با تو بميرم!» 34 عيسی فرمود: «پطرس، بدان كه تا فردا صبح، پيش از بانگ خروس، سه بار مرا انكار نموده، خواهی گفت كه مرا نمیشناسی!» 35 سپس از شاگردان پرسيد: «هنگامی كه شما را فرستادم تا پيام انجيل را به مردم اعلام كنيد، و پول و كولهبار و لباس اضافی با خود بر نداشته بوديد، آيا به چيزی محتاج شديد؟» جواب دادند: «خير.» 36 فرمود: «اما اكنون اگر كولهبار و پول داريد، برداريد؛ و اگر شمشير نداريد، بهتر است لباس خود را بفروشيد و شمشيری بخريد! 37 چون زمان انجام اين پيشگويی درباره من رسيده است كه میگويد: همچون يک گناهكار، محكوم خواهد شد. بلی، هر چه درباره من پيشگويی شده است، عملی خواهد شد.» 38 گفتند: «استاد، دو شمشير داريم.» اما عيسی فرمود: «بس است!»

دعای عيسی در كوه زيتون

39 آنگاه عيسی همراه شاگردان خود، از آن بالاخانه بيرون آمد و طبق عادت به كوه زيتون رفت. 40 در آنجا به ايشان گفت: «دعا كنيد و از خدا بخواهيد كه مغلوب وسوسهها نشويد!» 41 سپس به اندازه پرتاب يک سنگ دورتر رفت و زانو زد و چنين دعا كرد: 42 «ای پدر، اگر خواست توست، اين جام رنج و زحمت را از مقابل من بردار، اما در اين مورد نيز میخواهم اراده تو انجام شود، نه خواست من.» 43 آنگاه از آسمان فرشتهای ظاهر شد و او را تقويت كرد. 44 پس او با شدت بيشتری به دعا پرداخت و از كشمكش روحی آنچنان در رنج و عذاب بود كه عرق او همچون قطرههای درشت خون بر زمين میچكيد. 45 سرانجام، برخاست و نزد شاگردان بازگشت و ديد كه در اثر غم و اندوه، به خواب رفتهاند. 46 پس به ايشان گفت: «چرا خوابيدهايد؟ برخيزيد و دعا كنيد تا مغلوب وسوسهها نشويد!»

دستگيری عيسی

47 اين كلمات هنوز بر زبان او بود كه ناگاه گروهی با هدايت يهودا سر رسيدند. (يهودا يكی از دوازده شاگرد عيسی بود.) او جلو آمد و به رسم دوستی، صورت عيسی را بوسيد. 48 عيسی به او گفت: «يهودا، چگونه راضی شدی با بوسهای به مسيح خيانت كنی؟» 49 اما شاگردان، وقتی متوجه جريان شدند، فرياد زدند: «استاد، آيا اجازه میدهيد بجنگيم؟ شمشيرهايمان حاضر است!» 50 همان لحظه يكی از ايشان به روی خادم كاهن اعظم شمشير كشيد و گوش راست او را بريد. 51 عيسی بلافاصله گفت: «ديگر بس است!» سپس گوش او را لمس كرد و شفا داد. 52 آنگاه عيسی به كاهنان اعظم، فرماندهان محافظين خانهٔ خدا و سران مذهبی كه آن گروه را رهبری میكردند، گفت: «مگر من يک دزد فراری هستم كه برای گرفتنم، با چماق و شمشير آمدهايد؟ 53 من هر روز در خانه خدا بودم؛ چرا در آنجا مرا نگرفتيد؟ آن موقع نمیتوانستيد كاری بكنيد، اما اكنون زمان شماست، زمانی كه قدرت شيطان حكمفرماست!»

پطرس عيسی را انکار میکند

54 به اين ترتيب او را گرفته، به خانه كاهن اعظم بردند. پطرس نيز از دور ايشان را دنبال كرد. 55 سربازان در حياط آتشی روشن كردند و دور آن نشستند. پطرس هم در آنجا به ايشان پيوست. 56 در اين هنگام، كنيزی، چهره پطرس را در نور آتش ديد و او را شناخت و گفت: «اين مرد هم با عيسی بود!» 57 اما پطرس انكار كرد و گفت: «دختر، من اصلاً او را نمیشناسم!» 58 كمی بعد، يک نفر ديگر متوجه او شد و گفت: «تو هم بايد يكی از آنان باشی.» جواب داد: «نه آقا، نيستم!» 59 در حدود يک ساعت بعد، يک نفر ديگر با تأكيد گفت: «من مطمئن هستم كه اين مرد يكی از شاگردان عيسی است، چون هر دو اهل جليل هستند.» 60 پطرس گفت: «ای مرد، از گفتههايت سر در نمیآورم!» و همين كه اين را گفت، خروس بانگ زد. 61 همان لحظه عيسی سرش را برگرداند و به پطرس نگاه كرد. آنگاه سخن عيسی به يادش آمد كه به او گفته بود: «تا فردا صبح، پيش از آنكه خروس بانگ زند، سه بار مرا انكار خواهی كرد!» 62 پس پطرس از حياط بيرون رفت و زارزار گريست. 63 اما نگهبانانی كه عيسی را تحت نظر داشتند، او را مسخره میكردند. ايشان چشمانش را میبستند، به او سيلی میزدند و میگفتند: «ای پيغمبر، از غيب بگو ببينيم، چه كسی تو را زد؟» 65 و بسيار سخنان ناشايست ديگر به او میگفتند.

محاكمهٔ عيسی

66 به محض روشن شدن هوا، شورای عالی يهود، مركب از كاهنان اعظم و علمای دين، تشكيل جلسه داد. ايشان عيسی را احضار كرده، 67 از او پرسيدند: «به ما بگو، آيا تو مسيح موعود هستی يا نه؟» عيسی فرمود: «اگر هم بگويم، باور نخواهيد كرد و اجازه نخواهيد داد تا از خود دفاع كنم. 69 اما بزودی زمانی خواهد رسيد كه من در كنار خدای قادر مطلق، بر تخت سلطنت خواهم نشست!» 70 همه فرياد زده، گفتند: «پس تو ادعا میكنی كه فرزند خدا هستی؟» فرمود: «بلی، چنين است كه میگوييد!» 71 فرياد زدند: «ديگر چه نيازی به شاهد داريم؟ خودمان كفر را از زبانش شنيديم!»
