1Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions.2She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels bearing spices and very much gold and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she told him all that was on her mind.3And Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing hidden from the king that he could not explain to her.4And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built,5the food of his table, the seating of his officials, and the attendance of his servants, their clothing, his cupbearers, and his burnt offerings that he offered at the house of the Lord, there was no more breath in her.6And she said to the king, “The report was true that I heard in my own land of your words and of your wisdom,7but I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity surpass the report that I heard.8Happy are your men! Happy are your servants, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom!9Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and set you on the throne of Israel! Because the Lord loved Israel forever, he has made you king, that you may execute justice and righteousness.”10Then she gave the king 120 talents* of gold, and a very great quantity of spices and precious stones. Never again came such an abundance of spices as these that the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.11Moreover, the fleet of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought from Ophir a very great amount of almug wood and precious stones.12And the king made of the almug wood supports for the house of the Lord and for the king’s house, also lyres and harps for the singers. No such almug wood has come or been seen to this day.13And King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all that she desired, whatever she asked besides what was given her by the bounty of King Solomon. So she turned and went back to her own land with her servants.
Solomon’s Great Wealth
14Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was 666 talents of gold,15besides that which came from the explorers and from the business of the merchants, and from all the kings of the west and from the governors of the land.16King Solomon made 200 large shields of beaten gold; 600 shekels* of gold went into each shield.17And he made 300 shields of beaten gold; three minas* of gold went into each shield. And the king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.18The king also made a great ivory throne and overlaid it with the finest gold.19The throne had six steps, and the throne had a round top,* and on each side of the seat were armrests and two lions standing beside the armrests,20while twelve lions stood there, one on each end of a step on the six steps. The like of it was never made in any kingdom.21All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None were of silver; silver was not considered as anything in the days of Solomon.22For the king had a fleet of ships of Tarshish at sea with the fleet of Hiram. Once every three years the fleet of ships of Tarshish used to come bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.*23Thus King Solomon excelled all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.24And the whole earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind.25Every one of them brought his present, articles of silver and gold, garments, myrrh,* spices, horses, and mules, so much year by year.26And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen. He had 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, whom he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.27And the king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stone, and he made cedar as plentiful as the sycamore of the Shephelah.28And Solomon’s import of horses was from Egypt and Kue, and the king’s traders received them from Kue at a price.29A chariot could be imported from Egypt for 600 shekels of silver and a horse for 150, and so through the king’s traders they were exported to all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Syria.

1La reina de Sabá oyó de la fama de Salomón, debido al nombre de YHVH, y vino a probarlo con preguntas difíciles.2Y llegó a Jerusalem con un gran séquito, con camellos cargados de especias aromáticas, oro en gran abundancia y piedras preciosas. Cuando vino a Salomón, habló con él de todo lo que tenía en su mente.3Y Salomón respondió a todas sus preguntas, y no hubo cosa difícil que el rey no le pudiera responder.4Y la reina de Sabá, al ver toda la sabiduría de Salomón, y el palacio que había edificado,5y los manjares de su mesa, y los asientos de sus servidores, y la presentación y las vestiduras de sus siervos y coperos, y los holocaustos que él hacía elevar en la Casa de YHVH, se quedó sin aliento,6y dijo al rey: ¡Es verdad lo que oí en mi tierra acerca de tus hechos y de tu sabiduría!7Y no creía lo que me decían hasta que vine, y mis ojos lo han visto, y he aquí no se me había contado ni la mitad: en sabiduría y bienes tú superas la fama que había oído.8¡Dichosos tus hombres, y dichosos estos siervos tuyos, que continuamente están en tu presencia y oyen tu sabiduría!9¡Bendito sea YHVH tu Dios, que se agradó de ti para ponerte en el trono de Israel! Por causa del eterno amor que YHVH tiene por Israel, te ha constituido rey, a fin de que practiques el derecho y la justicia.10Y ella dio al rey ciento veinte talentos de oro, y gran cantidad de especias aromáticas y piedras preciosas. Nunca más llegó tanta abundancia de especias aromáticas como las que la reina de Sabá trajo al rey Salomón.11También la flota de Hiram, que había traído oro de Ofir, trajo de Ofir gran cantidad de madera de sándalo y piedras preciosas.12Y con la madera de sándalo el rey hizo pilares para la Casa de YHVH y para la casa real, además de arpas y liras para los músicos. Nunca llegó madera de sándalo tal, ni se ha visto hasta este día.13El rey Salomón dio a la reina de Sabá cuanto ella quiso pedirle, además de lo que Salomón le había dado conforme a su real munificencia. Ella entonces se volvió y regresó a su tierra con sus siervos.14El peso del oro que le llegaba a Salomón cada año era de seiscientos sesenta y seis talentos de oro,15aparte del de los mercaderes, y el de los negocios de los comerciantes, y el de todos los reyes de Arabia, y el de los gobernadores del país.16El rey Salomón hizo doscientos paveses de oro batido, empleando en cada escudo seiscientos siclos de oro;17e hizo además trescientos escudos de oro batido, empleando en cada escudo tres minas de oro, los cuales el rey colocó en la casa del bosque del Líbano.18También hizo el rey un gran trono de marfil y lo recubrió de oro refinado;19el trono tenía seis gradas, y el respaldo tenía una cabeza de becerro; a ambos lados del asiento tenía soportes para los brazos, y junto a los brazos había dos leones de pie;20había igualmente doce leones de pie, uno a cada lado de las seis gradas. Jamás se hizo algo semejante para ningún reino.21Todos los vasos de beber del rey Salomón eran de oro puro, y todos los objetos de la casa del bosque del Líbano eran de oro fino. Nada era de plata, pues en los días de Salomón ésta no era estimada en absoluto;22porque el rey tenía en el mar la flota de Tarsis con la flota de Hiram; y una vez cada tres años venía la flota de Tarsis trayendo oro, plata, marfil, monos y pavos reales.23El rey Salomón llegó a ser más grande que todos los reyes de la tierra en riquezas y en sabiduría.24Y toda la tierra procuraba estar en presencia de Salomón para oír la sabiduría que ’Elohim había puesto en su corazón.25Y año tras año, todos ellos le llevaban su presente: objetos de plata, objetos de oro, vestiduras, armas, perfumes, caballos y mulos.26Y reunió Salomón carros de guerra y jinetes, y tuvo mil cuatrocientos carros y doce mil jinetes, que situó en las ciudades de los carros, y en Jerusalem, cerca del rey.27Y el rey hizo que la plata fuera en Jerusalem como las piedras, y los cedros como los sicómoros de la Sefelá.28Los caballos de Salomón provenían de Egipto y de Coa, que los mercaderes del rey adquirían en Coa al contado.29Y cada carro que entraba de Egipto costaba seiscientos siclos de plata, y cada caballo ciento cincuenta siclos. Por medio de ellos también los adquirían todos los reyes de los heteos y los reyes de Siria.
