Приветствия

1 От Паула, призванного быть посланником Исы Масиха* по воле Всевышнего, и от брата Сосфена*. 2 Коринфской общине верующих, принадлежащей Всевышнему, – освящённым в единении с Исой Масихом, призванным быть Его святым народом, а также всем, кто в самых различных местах призывает имя нашего Повелителя Исы Масиха – Повелителя их и нашего. 3 Благодать и мир вам* от Всевышнего, нашего Небесного Отца, и от Повелителя Исы Масиха.

Благодарность

4 Я всегда благодарю моего Бога за вас, за те дары благодати, которые вы получили от Него через Ису Масиха, 5 потому что благодаря Ему вы были обогащены во всём: и во всяком слове, и во всяком познании*, 6 так как наше свидетельство о Масихе прочно утвердилось в вас. 7 Поэтому у вас нет недостатка ни в каком духовном даре, пока вы ждёте явления нашего Повелителя Исы Масиха. 8 Он утвердит вас в истине до конца, чтобы в день возвращения нашего Вечного Повелителя Исы Масиха вам оказаться непорочными. 9 Верен Всевышний, призвавший вас быть в общении с Его (вечным) Сыном* Исой Масихом, нашим Повелителем!

Разделения в общине верующих

10 Во имя нашего Повелителя Исы Масиха я умоляю вас, братья, быть в согласии друг с другом! Пусть между вами не будет разделений, но будьте едины в мыслях и в целях. 11 Братья мои, от домашних Хлои я узнал о ваших спорах. 12 Я имею в виду, что одни из вас говорят: «Я – сторонник Паула», другие: «Я – Аполлоса»*, третьи: «Я – Кифы»*, четвёртые: «А я – сторонник Масиха». 13 Неужели Масих разделился? Или, может, это Паул был распят за вас? Или вы прошли обряд погружения в воду* в знак единения с Паулом?* Нет! 14 Хвала Всевышнему, я ни над кем из вас не совершил этот обряд, кроме Криспа* и Гая*, 15 так что никто из вас не может сказать, что он прошёл этот обряд в знак единения со мной*. 16 Да, ещё я совершил обряд погружения в воду и над Стефаном* и домашними его, а больше не помню, чтобы я ещё над кем-либо совершил этот обряд. 17 Ведь Масих послал меня не проводить обряд погружения в воду, а возвещать Радостную Весть, и возвещать её следовало не по человеческой мудрости, иначе искупительная смерть Масиха на кресте потеряла бы своё значение.

Мудрость мира – безумие пред Всевышним

18 Те, кто идёт к погибели, считают, что весть об искупительной смерти Масиха на кресте – это безумие, но для нас, спасаемых, – это сила Всевышнего. 19 Ведь написано: «Я погублю мудрость мудрецов, и разум разумных Я отвергну»*. 20 Где мудрец? Где учитель Таурата? Где искусный спорщик этого века? Разве Всевышний не показал, что вся мудрость этого мира на самом деле глупость? 21 И так как по великой мудрости Всевышнего этот мир, несмотря на всю его мудрость, так и не смог познать Его, то Всевышнему было угодно спасти* тех, кто поверит через«безумие» возвещаемой Вести. 22 Иудеи требуют знамений, греки ищут мудрости, 23 а мы возвещаем распятого Масиха – для иудеев это камень преткновения, а для других народов – безумие. 24 Для тех же, кого Всевышний призвал, будь то иудей или грек, Масих – это сила и мудрость Всевышнего! 25 Ведь то, что кажется глупостью Всевышнего, – куда мудрее человеческой мудрости, и что кажется слабостью Всевышнего – куда сильнее человеческой силы. 26 Взгляните, братья, на то, какими вы были, когда вас призвал Всевышний. Много ли среди вас было мудрых, если судить по-человечески, много ли среди вас было могущественных, много ли знатных? 27 Но Всевышний избрал то, что в мире считается глупым, чтобы посрамить мудрых, и то, что в мире считается слабым, чтобы посрамить сильное. 28 Он избрал низкое и презренное, то, что в мире не имеет никакой цены, чтобы сделать ничем то, что считается важным, 29 так что теперь никто не может хвалиться перед Ним. 30 Благодаря Ему вы находитесь в единении с Исой Масихом, Который стал для нас мудростью Всевышнего, нашей праведностью, святостью и искуплением. 31 Поэтому, как написано: «Тот, кто хвалится, пусть хвалится Вечным Повелителем»*.

1 I, Paul, am writing this letter. I have been chosen to be an apostle of Christ Jesus just as God planned. Our brother Sosthenes joins me in writing. 2 We are sending this letter to you, the members of God’s church in Corinth. You have been made holy because you belong to Christ Jesus. God has chosen you to be his holy people. He has done the same for all people everywhere who pray to our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is their Lord and ours. 3 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Paul gives thanks

4 I always thank my God for you. I thank him because of the grace he has given to you who belong to Christ Jesus. 5 You have been blessed in every way because of him. You have been blessed in all your speech and knowledge. 6 God has shown that what we have spoken to you about Christ is true. 7 There is no gift of the Holy Spirit that you don’t have. You are full of hope as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to come again. 8 God will also keep you strong in faith to the very end. Then you will be without blame on the day our Lord Jesus Christ returns. 9 God is faithful. He has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Taking sides in the church

10 Brothers and sisters, I make my appeal to you. I do this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I ask that all of you agree with one another in what you say. I ask that you don’t take sides. I ask that you are in complete agreement in all that you think. 11 My brothers and sisters, I have been told you are arguing with one another. Some people from Chloe’s house have told me this. 12 Here is what I mean. One of you says, ‘I follow Paul.’ Another says, ‘I follow Apollos.’ Another says, ‘I follow Peter.’ And still another says, ‘I follow Christ.’ 13 Does Christ take sides? Did Paul die on the cross for you? Were you baptised in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I didn’t baptise any of you except Crispus and Gaius. 15 No one can say that you were baptised in my name. 16 It’s true that I also baptised those who live in the house of Stephanas. Besides that, I don’t remember if I baptised anyone else. 17 Christ did not send me to baptise. He sent me to preach the good news. He commanded me not to preach with wisdom and fancy words. That would take all the power away from the cross of Christ.

Christ is God’s power and wisdom

18 The message of the cross seems foolish to those who are lost and dying. But it is God’s power to us who are being saved. 19 It is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of those who are wise. I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart.’ 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where are the great thinkers of our time? Hasn’t God made the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 God wisely planned that the world would not know him through its own wisdom. It pleased God to use the foolish things we preach to save those who believe. 22 Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom. 23 But we preach about Christ and his death on the cross. That is very hard for Jews to accept. And everyone else thinks it’s foolish. 24 But there are those God has chosen, both Jews and Greeks. To them Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom. 25 The foolish things of God are wiser than human wisdom. The weakness of God is stronger than human strength. 26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when God chose you. Not many of you were considered wise by human standards. Not many of you were powerful. Not many of you belonged to important families. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the things of this world that are common and looked down on. God chose things considered unimportant to do away with things considered important. 29 So no one can boast to God. 30 Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God. He makes us holy and sets us free. 31 It is written, ‘The one who boasts should boast about what the Lord has done.’
