Salutación

1 Pablo, siervo de Jesús el Mesías, un apóstol por llamamiento, habiendo sido apartado para el evangelio de Dios 2 (que Él había prometido de antemano por medio de sus profetas en las santas Escrituras, 3 acerca de su Hijo, nuestro Señor Jesús el Mesías, del linaje de David según la carne, 4 que fue designado Hijo de Dios con poder, conforme al Espíritu de santidad, por su resurrección de entre los muertos), 5 por medio del cual recibimos la gracia y el apostolado, para obediencia de la fe entre todos los gentiles por causa de su nombre, 6 entre los cuales estáis también vosotros, llamados a ser de Jesucristo, 7 a todos los que estáis en Roma, amados de Dios, llamados a ser santos: Gracia a vosotros, y paz de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.

Anhelo de Pablo

8 Primeramente, doy gracias a mi Dios por medio de Jesucristo por todos vosotros, por cuanto vuestra fe es cosa muy bien conocida en todo el mundo. 9 Porque Dios, al cual sirvo en mi espíritu en el evangelio de su Hijo, me es testigo de cómo incesantemente hago memoria de vosotros siempre en mis oraciones, 10 rogando que de algún modo sea posible, ahora por fin, tener un próspero viaje para ir a vosotros en la voluntad de Dios. 11 Porque anhelo veros, para impartiros algún don espiritual, a fin de que seáis fortalecidos, 12 y también para ser confortado juntamente con vosotros por la confianza mutua que nos tenemos unos a otros. 13 Porque no quiero hermanos que ignoréis, que muchas veces me propuse ir a vosotros para tener algún fruto, no sólo entre los demás gentiles, sino también entre vosotros, pero hasta ahora he sido impedido. 14 Deudor soy a los griegos y también a los bárbaros, a los sabios y también a los ignorantes. 15 Así que, en cuanto a mí, estoy dispuesto a proclamar las buenas nuevas también a vosotros en Roma.

El poder del evangelio

16 Porque no me avergüenzo del evangelio, porque es poder de Dios para salvación a todo el que cree: al judío primeramente, y también al griego. 17 Porque en el evangelio está siendo revelada una justicia divina de fe a fe, como está escrito: El justo vivirá a base de fe.

Depravación de la humanidad

18 Porque la ira de Dios está siendo manifestada desde el cielo contra toda impiedad e injusticia de los hombres que detienen con injusticia la verdad. 19 Porque lo que de Dios es conocido, es evidente para ellos, pues Dios se lo manifestó. 20 Porque las cosas invisibles de Él, su eterno poder y deidad, se hacen claramente visibles desde la creación del mundo, entendiéndose por medio de las cosas hechas, de modo que son inexcusables. 21 Porque habiendo conocido a Dios, no lo glorificaron como a Dios, ni le dieron gracias, sino que se entregaron a vanas especulaciones, y su necio corazón fue entenebrecido. 22 Alegando ser sabios se hicieron necios, 23 y cambiaron la gloria del Dios incorruptible en semejanza de imagen de hombre corruptible, de aves, de cuadrúpedos y de reptiles. 24 Por esto Dios los abandonó en las concupiscencias de sus corazones a la inmundicia, para que deshonraran sus propios cuerpos entre sí. 25 Éstos cambiaron la verdad de Dios en mentira, y reverenciaron y sirvieron a la criatura antes que al Creador, el cual es bendito por los siglos. Amén. 26 Por eso Dios los abandonó a pasiones vergonzosas, pues aun sus mujeres cambiaron el uso natural por el que es contra naturaleza, 27 y del mismo modo también los varones, dejando el uso natural de las mujeres, se encendieron en su lascivia unos con otros, cometiendo hechos vergonzosos varones con varones, y recibiendo en sí mismos la debida recompensa de su extravío. 28 Y como no quisieron reconocer a Dios, Dios los entregó a una mente reprobada, para hacer cosas que no convienen, 29 estando atestados de toda injusticia, perversidad, avaricia, maldad; colmados de envidia, homicidio, contienda, engaño, malignidad. 30 Murmuradores, detractores, aborrecedores de Dios, insolentes, soberbios, jactanciosos, inventores de cosas malas, desobedientes a los progenitores, 31 necios, desleales, sin afecto natural, despiadados; 32 quienes, habiendo entendido el pronunciamiento de Dios: que los que practican tales cosas son dignos de muerte; no sólo las hacen, sino que también se complacen con los que las practican.

English Standard Version

Greeting

1 Paul, a servant* of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was descended from David* according to the flesh 4 and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 6 including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, 7 To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Longing to Go to Rome

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers,* that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians,* both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,* as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”*

God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,* in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
