English Standard Version

6 His father had never at any time displeased him by asking, “Why have you done thus and so?” He was also a very handsome man, and he was born next after Absalom. (2Sa 3:3; 1Ch 3:2) 

New International Version

6 (His father had never rebuked him by asking, ‘Why do you behave as you do?’ He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.) 

New International Reader’s Version

6 His father had never tried to stop him from doing what he wanted to. His father had never asked him, ‘Why are you acting the way you do?’ Adonijah was also very handsome. Now that Absalom was dead, Adonijah was David’s eldest son. 

King James Version

6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man ; and his mother bare him after Absalom.
