1 Kings 1:5

English Standard Version

5 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. (2Sa 3:4; 2Sa 15:1)

New International Version

5 Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, ‘I will be king.’ So he got chariots and horses[1] ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

New International Reader’s Version

5 Adonijah was the son of David and his wife Haggith. He came forward and announced, ‘I’m going to be the next king.’ So he got chariots and horses ready. He also got 50 men to run in front of him.
