Hebrews 2:17

English Standard Version

17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. (Ro 15:17; Php 2:7; Heb 4:15; Heb 5:1; Heb 5:2; Heb 5:7)

New International Version

17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[1] fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

New International Reader’s Version

17 So he had to be made like people, fully human in every way. Then he could serve God as a kind and faithful high priest. And then he could pay for the sins of the people by dying for them.

King James Version

17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
