English Standard Version

5 They crossed the Jordan and began from Aroer,[1] and from the city that is in the middle of the valley, toward Gad and on to Jazer. (Nu 13:23; Nu 21:32; Nu 32:1; Nu 32:3; De 2:36; Jos 13:9; Jos 13:16) 

New International Version

5 After crossing the Jordan, they camped near Aroer, south of the town in the gorge, and then went through Gad and on to Jazer. 

New International Reader’s Version

5 They went across the River Jordan. They camped south of the town in the middle of the River Arnon valley near Aroer. Then they went through Gad and continued on to Jazer. 

King James Version

5 And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:
