9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials,[1] and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, (1Co 10:13; Re 3:10) 

New International Version

9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. 

New International Reader’s Version

9 Since all this is true, then the Lord knows how to save godly people. He knows how to keep them safe in times of testing. The Lord also knows how to keep ungodly people under guard. He will do so until the day they will be judged and punished.
