2 Peter 2:19

English Standard Version

19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves[1] of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. (Joh 8:34; Ro 6:16; Ga 5:13; Jas 1:25)

New International Version

19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity – for ‘people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.’

New International Reader’s Version

19 They promise to give freedom to these new believers. But they themselves are slaves to sinful living. That’s because ‘people are slaves to anything that controls them.’

King James Version

19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
