14 Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept before him, crying, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” (2Ki 2:12) 

New International Version

14 Now Elisha had been suffering from the illness from which he died. Jehoash king of Israel went down to see him and wept over him. ‘My father! My father!’ he cried. ‘The chariots and horsemen of Israel!’ 

New International Reader’s Version

14 Elisha had been suffering from a disease. Later he would die from it. Jehoash, the king of Israel, went down to see him. Jehoash wept over him. ‘My father!’ he cried. ‘You are like a father to me! You, Elisha, are the true chariots and horsemen of Israel!’ 

King James Version

14 Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.
