1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree. (Jer 49:36; Da 7:2; Re 7:3)2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, (Re 9:4; Re 16:12)3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” (Eze 3:8; Eze 9:4; Re 6:6; Re 9:4; Re 13:16; Re 14:1; Re 22:4)4 And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel: (Re 9:16)5 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed, 12,000 from the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 from the tribe of Gad,6 12,000 from the tribe of Asher, 12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh,7 12,000 from the tribe of Simeon, 12,000 from the tribe of Levi, 12,000 from the tribe of Issachar,8 12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000 from the tribe of Joseph, 12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, (Le 23:40; Joh 12:13; Ro 11:25; Re 3:4; Re 5:9; Re 7:14)10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Ps 3:8; Re 12:10; Re 19:1)11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, (Re 4:6; Re 4:10)12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” (1Ch 29:10; Re 5:14; Re 19:4)13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” (Re 7:9)14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (Isa 1:18; Da 12:10; Zec 3:3; Mt 24:21; 1Jo 1:7; Re 1:5; Re 22:14)15 “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. (Isa 4:5; Re 21:3; Re 22:3)16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. (Ps 121:6; Isa 49:10)17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Ps 23:1; Ps 36:8; Isa 25:8; Mt 2:6; Joh 4:14; Joh 10:11; Re 21:4; Re 22:1)

Revelation 7

King James Version

1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Revelation 7

New International Reader’s Version

1 After this I saw four angels. They were standing at the four corners of the earth. They were holding back the four winds of the earth. This kept the winds from blowing on the land or the sea or on any tree.2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east. He brought the official seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels. They had been allowed to harm the land and the sea.3 ‘Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees,’ he said. ‘Wait until we mark with this seal the foreheads of those who serve our God.’4 Then I heard how many people were marked with the seal. There were 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.5 From the tribe of Judah, 12,000 were marked with the seal. From the tribe of Reuben, 12,000. From the tribe of Gad, 12,000.6 From the tribe of Asher, 12,000. From the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000. From the tribe of Manasseh, 12,000.7 From the tribe of Simeon, 12,000. From the tribe of Levi, 12,000. From the tribe of Issachar, 12,000.8 From the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000. From the tribe of Joseph, 12,000. From the tribe of Benjamin, 12,000.9 After this I looked, and there in front of me was a huge crowd of people. They stood in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb. There were so many that no one could count them. They came from every nation, tribe and people. That’s true no matter what language they spoke. They were wearing white robes. In their hands they were holding palm branches.10 They cried out in a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne. Salvation also belongs to the Lamb.’11 All the angels were standing around the throne. They were standing around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces in front of the throne and worshipped God.12 They said, ‘Amen! May praise and glory and wisdom be given to our God for ever and ever. Give him thanks and honour and power and strength. Amen!’13 Then one of the elders spoke to me. ‘Who are these people dressed in white robes?’ he asked. ‘Where did they come from?’14 I answered, ‘Sir, you know.’ He said, ‘They are the ones who have come out of the time of terrible suffering. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.15 So ‘they are in front of the throne of God. They serve him day and night in his temple. The one who sits on the throne will be with them to keep them safe.16 “Never again will they be hungry. Never again will they be thirsty. The sun will not beat down on them.” The heat of the desert will not harm them. (Isa 49:10)17 The Lamb, who is at the centre of the area around the throne, will be their shepherd. “He will lead them to springs of living water.” “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” ’ (Isa 25:8; Isa 49:10)
