Galatians 1

English Standard Version

1 Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— (Ac 2:24; Ac 9:6; Ac 20:24; Ac 22:10; Ac 22:15; Ac 22:21; Ac 26:16; 2Co 1:1; Ga 1:11; 1Ti 1:1; Tit 1:3)2 and all the brothers[1] who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: (Ac 16:6; 1Co 16:1; Php 4:21)3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, (Ro 1:7; 1Co 1:3; 1Ti 1:2)4 who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, (Mt 20:28; Joh 15:19; Ro 4:25; 1Co 15:3; Eph 2:2; Php 4:20; 1Th 1:3; 1Th 3:11; 1Th 3:13; 1Jo 5:19)5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— (Ac 16:6; Ac 18:23; 2Co 11:4; Ga 4:13; Ga 5:8; 1Ti 1:3)7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. (Ac 4:12; Ac 15:24; 1Co 3:11; 2Co 11:13; Ga 5:10)8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. (Ro 9:3; 2Co 11:14)9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. (Ga 1:8)10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant[2] of Christ. (Ro 1:1; Ro 2:29; 1Co 10:33; Eph 6:6; Col 3:22; 1Th 2:4)11 For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel.[3] (Ro 2:16; 1Co 15:1)12 For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. (Ac 22:14; 1Co 2:10; 1Co 11:23; 1Co 15:3; 2Co 12:1; Ga 1:1; Ga 1:16)13 For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it. (Ac 8:3; Ac 26:4)14 And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. (Jer 9:14; Mt 15:2; Ac 21:20; Php 3:6; 2Ti 1:3)15 But when he who had set me apart before I was born,[4] and who called me by his grace, (Isa 49:1; Isa 49:5; Jer 1:5; Lu 1:15; Ac 13:2; Ro 1:1; Ga 1:6)16 was pleased to reveal his Son to[5] me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone;[6] (Ac 9:15; Ga 2:9)17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and remained with him fifteen days. (Ac 9:22)19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord’s brother. (Mt 12:46; Ac 12:17)20 (In what I am writing to you, before God, I do not lie!) (Ro 1:9; Ro 9:1)21 Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. (Ac 9:30; Ac 11:25; Ac 13:1)22 And I was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. (1Th 2:14)23 They only were hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.”24 And they glorified God because of me.

Galatians 1

New International Version

1 Paul, an apostle – sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead –2 and all the brothers and sisters[1] with me, To the churches in Galatia:3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel –7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!9 As we have already said, so now I say again: if anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin.12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being.17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Cephas[2] and stayed with him fifteen days.19 I saw none of the other apostles – only James, the Lord’s brother.20 I assure you before God that what I am writing to you is no lie.21 Then I went to Syria and Cilicia.22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.23 They only heard the report: ‘The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’24 And they praised God because of me.

Galatians 1

King James Version

1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.24 And they glorified God in me.

Galatians 1

New International Reader’s Version

1 I, Paul, am writing this letter. I am an apostle. People have not sent me. No human authority has sent me. I have been sent by Jesus Christ and by God the Father. God raised Jesus from the dead.2 All the brothers and sisters who are with me join me in writing. We are sending this letter to you, the members of the churches in Galatia.3 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.4 Jesus gave his life for our sins. He set us free from this evil world. That was what our God and Father wanted.5 Give glory to God for ever and ever. Amen.6 I am amazed. You are so quickly deserting the one who chose you. He chose you to live in the grace that Christ has provided. You are turning to a different ‘good news.’7 What you are accepting is really not the good news at all. It seems that some people have confused you. They are trying to twist the good news about Christ.8 But suppose even we should preach a different ‘good news.’ Suppose even an angel from heaven should preach it. Suppose it is different from the good news we gave you. Then let anyone who does that be cursed by God.9 I have already said it. Now I will say it again. Suppose someone preaches a ‘good news’ that is different from what you accepted. That person should be cursed by God.10 Am I now trying to get people to think well of me? Or do I want God to think well of me? Am I trying to please people? If I were, I would not be serving Christ.11 Brothers and sisters, here is what I want you to know. The good news I preached does not come from human beings.12 No one gave it to me. No one taught it to me. Instead, I received it from Jesus Christ. He showed it to me.13 You have heard how I lived earlier in my Jewish way of life. With all my strength I attacked the church of God. I tried to destroy it.14 I was moving ahead in my Jewish way of life. I went beyond many of my people who were my own age. I held firmly to the teachings passed down by my people.15 But God set me apart from before the time I was born. He showed me his grace by appointing me. He was pleased16 to show his Son in my life. He wanted me to preach about Jesus among the Gentiles. When God appointed me, I decided right away not to ask anyone for advice.17 I didn’t go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was. Instead, I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem. I went there to get to know Peter. I stayed with him for 15 days.19 I didn’t see any of the other apostles. I only saw James, the Lord’s brother.20 Here is what you can be sure of. And God is even a witness to it. What I am writing to you is not a lie.21 Then I went to Syria and Cilicia.22 The members of Christ’s churches in Judea did not know me in a personal way.23 They only heard others say, ‘The man who used to attack us has changed. He is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’24 And they praised God because of me.
