Romans 9:32

English Standard Version

32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, (1Pe 2:8) 

New International Version

32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the ‘stumbling stone’. 

New International Reader’s Version

32 Why not? Because they tried to do it without faith. They tried to be right with God by what they did. They tripped over the stone that causes people to trip and fall. 

King James Version

32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
