12 And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? (Ps 22:6; Isa 53:2; Da 9:26; Zec 13:7; Mal 4:6; Mt 26:24; Mr 8:31; Lu 1:16; Lu 23:11; Ac 1:6; Ac 3:21; Ac 4:11; Php 2:7)

12 Jesus replied, ‘To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected? 

New International Reader’s Version

12 Jesus replied, ‘That’s right. Elijah does come first. He makes all things new again. So why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and not be accepted?

12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
