20 For they could not endure the order that was given, “If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.” (Ex 19:12) 

New International Version

20 because they could not bear what was commanded: ‘If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.’ (Ex 19:12; Ex 19:13) 

New International Reader’s Version

20 What God commanded was too much for them. He said, ‘If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be killed with stones.’ (Ex 19:12; Ex 19:13)
