Genesis 44:32

English Standard Version

32 For your servant became a pledge of safety for the boy to my father, saying, ‘If I do not bring him back to you, then I shall bear the blame before my father all my life.’ (Ge 43:9) 

New International Version

32 Your servant guaranteed the boy’s safety to my father. I said, “If I do not bring him back to you, I will bear the blame before you, my father, all my life!” 

New International Reader’s Version

32 I promised my father I would keep the boy safe. I said, “Father, I’ll bring him back to you. If I don’t, you can put the blame on me for the rest of my life.” 

King James Version

32 For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever.
