Genesis 38:8

English Standard Version

8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” (De 25:5; Mt 22:24; Mr 12:19; Lu 20:28) 

New International Version

8 Then Judah said to Onan, ‘Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfil your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

8 Then Judah said to Onan, ‘Sleep with your brother’s wife. After all, you are her brother-in-law. So carry out your duty to her. Provide children for your brother.’ 

King James Version

8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother' wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
