English Standard Version

9 Moses spoke thus to the people of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and harsh slavery. (Ex 5:21; Ac 7:25) 

New International Version

9 Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labour. 

New International Reader’s Version

9 Moses reported these things to the Israelites. But they didn’t listen to him. That’s because they had lost all hope and had to work very hard. 

King James Version

9 And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.
