Deuteronomy 8:16

English Standard Version

16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna that your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end. (Ex 16:15; De 8:3; Jer 24:5; Heb 12:11) 

New International Version

16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 

New International Reader’s Version

16 He gave you manna to eat in the desert. Your people had never even known anything about manna before. The LORD took your pride away. He tested you. He did it so that things would go well with you in the end. 

King James Version

16 Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
