39 Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt, (Ex 16:3; Nu 11:4; Nu 14:3; Eze 20:8; Eze 20:24) 

New International Version

39 ‘But our ancestors refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt. 

New International Reader’s Version

39 ‘But our people refused to obey Moses. They would not accept him. In their hearts, they wished they were back in Egypt. 

King James Version

39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
