16 Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. (Isa 2:8; 2Pe 2:8) 

New International Version

16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 

New International Reader’s Version

16 Paul was waiting for Silas and Timothy in Athens. He was very upset to see that the city was full of statues of gods. 

King James Version

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
