English Standard Version

36 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption, (Jud 2:10; 2Sa 7:12; 1Ki 2:10; Ac 2:29; Ac 13:22; Ac 20:27) 

New International Version

36 ‘Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. 

New International Reader’s Version

36 ‘David carried out God’s purpose while he lived. Then he died. He was buried with his people. His body rotted away. 

King James Version

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
