Iotam, re di Giuda

1 Iotam aveva venticinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò sedici anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Ierusa, figlia di Sadoc. 

2 Egli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore, interamente come aveva fatto Uzzia suo padre; soltanto non entrò nel tempio del Signore, ma il popolo continuava a corrompersi. 

3 Egli costruì la porta superiore della casa del Signore e fece molti lavori sulle mura di Ofel. 

4 Costruì anche delle città nella regione montuosa di Giuda e dei castelli e delle torri nelle foreste. 

5 Egli mosse guerra al re dei figli di Ammon e vinse gli Ammoniti. I figli di Ammon gli diedero quell’anno cento talenti d’argento, diecimila cori di grano e diecimila d’orzo; e altrettanto gli pagarono il secondo e il terzo anno. 

6 Così Iotam divenne potente, perché camminò con costanza davanti al Signore, suo Dio. 

7 Il rimanente delle azioni di Iotam, tutte le sue guerre e le sue imprese si trovano scritte nel libro dei re d’Israele e di Giuda. 

8 Aveva venticinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò sedici anni a Gerusalemme. 

9 Iotam si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide. E Acaz, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.

Jotham Reigns in Judah

1 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok. (2Re 15,33) 

2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord according to all that his father Uzziah had done, except he did not enter the temple of the Lord. But the people still followed corrupt practices. (2Cr 26,16) 

3 He built the upper gate of the house of the Lord and did much building on the wall of Ophel. (2Cr 33,14; Ne 3,26; Ne 11,21) 

4 Moreover, he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and forts and towers on the wooded hills. 

5 He fought with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed against them. And the Ammonites gave him that year 100 talents of silver, and 10,000 cors of wheat and 10,000 of barley. The Ammonites paid him the same amount in the second and the third years. 

6 So Jotham became mighty, because he ordered his ways before the Lord his God. 

7 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars and his ways, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. (2Re 15,36) 

8 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. (2Cr 27,1) 

9 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.
