1 اسْتَمِعُوا يَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ: أَنْتُمْ عَلَى وَشْكِ عُبُورِ نَهْرِ الأُرْدُنِّ لِتَدْخُلُوا لِطَرْدِ شُعُوبٍ أَكْبَرَ وَأَعْظَمَ مِنْكُمْ، وَلِلاسْتِيلاءِ عَلَى مُدُنٍ عَظِيمَةٍ مُحَصَّنَةٍ بِأَسْوَارٍ تَبْلُغُ عَنَانَ السَّمَاءِ، 2 يُقِيمُ فِيهَا الْعَنَاقِيُّونَ الْجَبَابِرَةُ الْعَمَالِقَةُ الَّذِينَ عَرَفْتُمْ عَنْهُمْ وَسَمِعْتُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ: مَنْ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَتَحَدَّى الْعَنَاقِيِّينَ؟ 3 فَاعْلَمُوا الْيَوْمَ أَنَّ الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ يَتَقَدَّمُكُمْ كَنَارٍ آكِلَةٍ، وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَسْتَأْصِلُهُمْ وَيُذِلُّهُمْ أَمَامَكُمْ، فَتَطْرُدُونَهُمْ وَتُبِيدُونَهُمْ سَرِيعاً كَمَا كَلَّمَكُمُ الرَّبُّ. 4 لَا تَقُولُوا لأَنْفُسِكُمْ بَعْدَ أَنْ يَنْفِيَهُمُ الرَّبُّ مِنْ أَمَامِكُمْ: لَقَدْ أَدْخَلَنَا الرَّبُّ لاِمْتِلاكِ هَذِهِ الأَرْضِ بِفَضْلِ صَلاحِنَا. إِنَّمَا مِنْ أَجْلِ كَثْرَةِ إِثْمِهِمْ يَطْرُدُهُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ مِنْ أَمَامِكُمْ. 5 إِذْ لَيْسَ بِفَضْلِ صَلاحِكُمْ وَاسْتِقَامَتِكُمْ تَدْخُلُونَ لامْتِلاكِ أَرْضِهِمْ، إِنَّمَا مِنْ أَجْلِ إِثْمِهِمْ يَطْرُدُهُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ مِنْ أَمَامِكُمْ وَفَاءً بِوَعْدِهِ الَّذِي أَقْسَمَ عَلَيْهِ لِآبَائِكُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ. 6 فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِفَضْلِ صَلاحِكُمْ يَهَبُكُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ هَذِهِ الأَرْضَ الْخَصِيبَةَ لامْتِلاكِهَا، لأَنَّكُمْ شَعْبٌ عَنِيدٌ.

7 اُذْكُرُوا وَلا تَنْسَوْا كَيْفَ أَسْخَطْتُمُ الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ، فَمُنْذُ أَنْ غَادَرْتُمْ دِيَارَ مِصْرَ حَتَّى بَلَغْتُمْ هَذَا الْمَكَانَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُقَاوِمُونَ الرَّبَّ. 8 فَفِي جَبَلِ حُورِيبَ أَثَرْتُمْ غَيْظَ الرَّبِّ، فَاحْتَدَمَ غَضَبُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ حَتَّى أَوْشَكَ أَنْ يُفْنِيَكُمْ. 9 فَحِينَ صَعِدْتُ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ لأَتَسَلَّمَ لَوْحَيْ حَجَرِ الْعَهْدِ الَّذِي قَطَعَهُ الرَّبُّ مَعَكُمْ، وَأَقَمْتُ فِيهِ أَرْبَعِينَ نَهَاراً وَأَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً لَا آكُلُ فِيهَا خُبْزاً أَوْ أَشْرَبُ مَاءً، 10 وَسَلَّمَنِي الرَّبُّ لَوْحَيِ الْحَجَرِ الْمَكْتُوبَيْنِ بِأَصْبَعِ اللهِ، حَيْثُ خَطَّ عَلَيْهِمَا جَمِيعَ الْوَصَايَا الَّتِي كَلَّمَكُمْ بِها الرَّبُّ فِي الْجَبَلِ مِنْ وَسَطِ النَّارِ فِي يَوْمِ الاجْتِمَاعِ. 11 وَحِينَ أَعْطَانِي الرَّبُّ لَوْحَيْ حَجَرِ الْعَهْدِ فِي نِهَايَةِ الأَرْبَعِينَ نَهَاراً وَالأَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، 12 قَالَ لِي الرَّبُّ: قُمْ وَأَسْرِعْ بِالنُّزُولِ مِنْ هُنَا، لأَنَّ شَعْبَكَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجْتَهُ مِنْ مِصْرَ قَدْ ضَلَّ. زَاغُوا سَرِيعاً عَنِ السَّبِيلِ الَّذِي أَوْصَيْتُهُمْ بِهِ، إِذْ صَاغُوا لأَنْفُسِهِمْ تِمْثَالاً مَسْبُوكاً. 13 ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي: قَدْ تَأَمَّلْتُ هَذَا الشَّعْبَ وَإِذْ بِهِ شَعْبٌ مُتَصَلِّبُ الْقَلْبِ. 14 دَعْنِي أَسْتَأْصِلُهُمْ وَأَمْحُو اسْمَهُمْ مِنْ تَحْتِ السَّمَاءِ، وَأُقِيمُ مِنْكَ شَعْباً أَعْظَمَ وَأَكْثَرَ مِنْهُمْ. 15 فَانْصَرَفْتُ، وَانْحَدَرْتُ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ وَهُوَ مَا بَرِحَ يَشْتَعِلُ بِالنَّارِ، وَلَوْحَا الْعَهْدِ فِي يَدَيَّ. 16 وَتَطَلَّعْتُ وَإذَا بِكُمْ قَدْ أَخْطَأْتُمْ إِلَى الرَّبِّ، وَصُغْتُمْ لأَنْفُسِكُمْ عِجْلاً مَسْبُوكاً، وَضَلَلْتُمْ سَرِيعاً عَنِ السَّبِيلِ الَّذِي أَوْصَاكُمْ بِهِ الرَّبُّ. 17 فَأَخَذْتُ اللَّوْحَيْنِ وَأَلْقَيْتُهُمَا مِنْ يَدَيَّ وَحَطَّمْتُهُمَا أَمَامَ أَعْيُنِكُمْ. 18 ثُمَّ انْطَرَحْتُ بِذُلٍّ أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ أَرْبَعِينَ نَهَاراً وَأَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، كَمَا فِي السَّابِقِ، لَا آكُلُ خُبْزاً وَلا أَشْرَبُ مَاءً، مِنْ جَرَّاءِ كُلِّ خَطَايَاكُمُ الَّتِي ارْتَكَبْتُمُوهَا فِي عَيْنَيِ الرَّبِّ لِتُغِيظُوهُ، 19 لأَنَّنِي جَزِعْتُ مِنْ غَضَبِ الرَّبِّ وَاحْتِدَامِ سَخَطِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ، حَتَّى أَوْشَكَ أَنْ يُبِيدَكُمْ. فَاسْتَجَابَ لِيَ الرَّبُّ أَيْضاً فِي تِلْكَ الْمَرَّةِ. 20 كَمَا غَضِبَ الرَّبُّ عَلَى هرُونَ أَيْضاً حَتَّى كَادَ أَنْ يُهْلِكَهُ، فَصَلَّيْتُ مِنْ أَجْلِهِ حِينَئِذٍ، فَقَبِلَ الرَّبُّ تَضَرُّعِي. 21 أَمَّا خَطِيئَتُكُمْ، الْعِجْلُ الَّذِي سَبَكْتُمُوهُ، فَقَدْ أَخَذْتُهُ وَأَحْرَقْتُهُ وَدَقَقْتُهُ وَطَحَنْتُهُ جَيِّداً، حَتَّى اسْتَحَالَ إِلَى تُرَابٍ، ثُمَّ طَرَحْتُ غُبَارَهُ فِي النَّهْرِ الْمُنْحَدِرِ مِنَ الْجَبَلِ. 22 وَمَا لَبِثْتُمْ أَنْ أَسْخَطْتُمُ الرَّبَّ فِي تَبْعِيرَةَ وَمَسَّةَ وَقَبْرُوتَ هَتَّأَوَةَ. 23 وَحِينَ أَرْسَلَكُمُ الرَّبُّ مِنْ قَادَشَ بَرْنِيعَ وَأَمَرَ: اصْعَدُوا لامْتِلاكِ الأَرْضِ الَّتِي وَهَبْتُهَا لَكُمْ، عَصَيْتُمْ أَمْرَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ وَلَمْ تُصَدِّقُوهُ، وَلَمْ تَأْتَمِرُوا بِقَوْلِهِ، 24 فَأَنْتُمْ حَقّاً مُتَمَرِّدُونَ عَلَى الرَّبِّ مُنْذُ أَنْ عَرَفْتُكُمْ. 25 فَسَقَطْتُ أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ أَرْبَعِينَ نَهَاراً وَأَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ أَعْلَنَ أَنَّهُ عَازِمٌ أَنْ يَقْضِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ. 26 وَابْتَهَلْتُ إِلَى الرَّبِّ قَائِلاً: يَا سَيِّدُ الرَّبُّ، لَا تُهْلِكْ شَعْبَكَ وَمِيرَاثَكَ الَّذِي افْتَدَيْتَهُ بِقُوَّتِكَ الْعَظِيمَةِ، وَأَخْرَجْتَهُ مِنْ مِصْرَ بِقُدْرَةٍ فَائِقَةٍ. 27 اُذْكُرْ عَبِيدَكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ، وَتَغَاضَ عَنْ عِنَادِ هَذَا الشَّعْبِ وَإِثْمِهِ وَخَطِيئَتِهِ، 28 لِئَلّا يَقُولَ أَهْلُ مِصْرَ الَّذِينَ أَخْرَجْتَنَا مِنْ بَيْنِهِمْ: لَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُمُ الرَّبُّ لِيُهْلِكَهُمْ فِي الْبَرِّيَّةِ، لأَنَّهُ عَجَزَ عَنْ إِدْخَالِهِمْ إِلَى الأَرْضِ الَّتِي وَعَدَهُمْ بِها، وَلأَنَّهُ مَقَتَهُمْ. 29 إِنَّهُمْ شَعْبُكَ وَمِيرَاثُكَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجْتَهُ بِقُوَّتِكَ الْعَظِيمَةِ وَقُدْرَتِكَ الْفَائِقَةِ.

1 «Ascolta, Israele! Oggi tu stai per passare il Giordano per andare a impadronirti di nazioni più grandi e più potenti di te, di città grandi e fortificate fino al cielo, 2 di un popolo grande e alto di statura: dei figli degli Anachiti che tu conosci e dei quali hai sentito dire: “Chi mai può resistere ai figli di Anac?” 3 Sappi dunque oggi che il Signore, il tuo Dio, è colui che marcerà alla tua testa come un fuoco che divora; egli li distruggerà e li abbatterà davanti a te; tu li scaccerai e li farai perire in un attimo, come il Signore ti ha detto. 4 Quando il Signore, il tuo Dio, li avrà scacciati davanti a te, non dire nel tuo cuore: “È per la mia giustizia che il Signore mi ha fatto entrare in possesso di questo paese”; poiché il Signore scaccia davanti a te queste nazioni, per la loro malvagità. 5 No, tu non entri in possesso del loro paese per la tua giustizia, né per la rettitudine del tuo cuore; ma il Signore, il tuo Dio, sta per scacciare quelle nazioni davanti a te per la loro malvagità e per mantenere la parola giurata ai tuoi padri, ad Abraamo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe. 6 Non è dunque per la tua giustizia che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti dà il possesso di questo buon paese; perché sei un popolo dal collo duro. 7 Ricòrdati, non dimenticare come hai provocato all’ira il Signore, il tuo Dio, nel deserto. Dal giorno che uscisti dal paese d’Egitto, fino al vostro arrivo in questo luogo, siete stati ribelli al Signore. 8 Anche a Oreb provocaste all’ira il Signore; il Signore si adirò contro di voi, al punto da volervi distruggere. 9 Quando io salii sul monte a prendere le tavole di pietra, le tavole del patto che il Signore aveva stipulato con voi, io rimasi sul monte quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, senza mangiare pane né bere acqua; 10 il Signore mi diede le due tavole di pietra, scritte con il dito di Dio, sulle quali stavano tutte le parole che il Signore vi aveva dette sul monte, parlandovi dal fuoco, il giorno dell’assemblea. 11 Fu alla fine dei quaranta giorni e delle quaranta notti che il Signore mi diede le due tavole di pietra, le tavole del patto. 12 Poi il Signore mi disse: “Muoviti, scendi presto di qui, perché il tuo popolo che hai fatto uscire dall’Egitto si è corrotto; hanno ben presto lasciato la via che io avevo loro ordinato di seguire; si sono fatti un’immagine di metallo fuso”. 13 Il Signore mi parlò ancora e disse: “Io l’ho visto questo popolo; è un popolo dal collo duro; 14 lasciami fare; io li distruggerò e cancellerò il loro nome sotto il cielo e farò di te una nazione più potente e più grande di loro”. 15 Così io mi volsi e scesi dal monte che era tutto in fiamme; tenevo nelle mie mani le due tavole del patto. 16 Guardai, e vidi che avevate peccato contro il Signore Dio vostro; vi eravate fatti un vitello di metallo fuso, avevate ben presto lasciato la via che il Signore vi aveva ordinato di seguire. 17 Presi le due tavole, le gettai dalle mie mani e le spezzai sotto i vostri occhi. 18 Poi mi prostrai davanti al Signore, come avevo fatto la prima volta, per quaranta giorni e per quaranta notti; non mangiai pane e non bevvi acqua, a causa del gran peccato che avevate commesso facendo ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, per irritarlo. 19 Poiché io avevo paura davanti all’ira e al furore da cui il Signore era invaso contro di voi, al punto di volervi distruggere. Ma il Signore mi esaudì anche quella volta. 20 Il Signore si adirò fortemente anche contro Aaronne, al punto di volerlo far perire; io pregai in quell’occasione anche per Aaronne. 21 Poi presi l’oggetto del vostro delitto, il vitello che avevate fatto, lo gettai nel fuoco, lo frantumai riducendolo in polvere, e buttai quella polvere nel torrente che scende dal monte. 22 Anche a Tabera, a Massa e a Chibrot-Attaava voi irritaste il Signore. 23 Quando il Signore volle farvi partire da Cades-Barnea dicendo: “Salite e impossessatevi del paese che io vi do”, voi vi ribellaste all’ordine del Signore vostro Dio, non aveste fede in lui e non ubbidiste alla sua voce. 24 Siete stati ribelli al Signore dal giorno che vi conobbi. 25 Io rimasi dunque così prostrato davanti al Signore quei quaranta giorni e quelle quaranta notti, perché il Signore aveva detto di volervi distruggere. 26 Pregai il Signore e dissi: “Signore, Dio, non distruggere il tuo popolo, la tua eredità, che hai redento nella tua grandezza, che hai fatto uscire dall’Egitto con mano potente. 27 Ricòrdati dei tuoi servi, Abraamo, Isacco e Giacobbe; non guardare alla caparbietà di questo popolo, alla sua malvagità e al suo peccato, 28 affinché il paese dal quale ci hai fatti uscire non dica: ‘Il Signore non era capace d’introdurli nella terra che aveva loro promessa e, siccome li odiava, li ha fatti uscire di qui per farli morire nel deserto’. 29 Nondimeno, essi sono il tuo popolo, la tua eredità, che facesti uscire dall’Egitto con la tua grande potenza e con il tuo braccio steso”.

5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the LORD your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 8 Even at Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, and the LORD was so angry with you that he was ready to destroy you. The Golden Calf

13 “Furthermore, the LORD said to me, ‘I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stubborn people. 16 And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God. You had made yourselves a golden^[1] calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you.
